Jelani Jordan....that is funny...in my opinion he was prolly the worst DB we had last year and i was not impressed by him at all and if anyone has any interest in him after the past 2 years then i would like a great explanation from them

The person who made that list probably knows absolutely nothing about our football team. They probably looked att JJ stats, saw that he had a ton of PBU's, and concluded that he is a really good player.

Maybe he is a really good player and all wasn't his fault. Just maybe he was in the right place and others weren't. I am quite sure he's been a 2 year starter because he's doing something right. Maybe his first year starting he made alot of mistakes, but then again, he was only a sophomore that did not benefit a year of red shirting. Just because it looks like the corner was the one beat...that's not always the case.

I happen to agree with you somewhat. I don't think he is half as bad as a lot of the fans around here do, but I also do not think he is pro material.

All I know is that if Jelani is pro material we would be having him locked onto the opponents' best WR and it would be one on one coverage. In which case all those screwups WERE his fault.

The reason he is on the list is becuase he has solid measurables and is a three year starter. I would gamble, whomever made the list never saw him play a down.

You are wrong in this case. Even if you are locked up one on one on the best receiver, if the coverage requires that you play underneath and the safety is supposed to come over and play on top on a deep route in the middle of the field...if the corner is in position underneath, but the receiver makes the catch over top and there is no safety anywhere in the picture...sorry, not the corners fault.

Add to that...the line gives the quarterback all day scramble around, sit in the pocket, clip his nails, and oh yeah...to find a receiver.

No matter how you look at it, anyone who watched any BG football this year knows that Jelani did not have a good year.

He must have done something right. He got an award from a group of coaches that watched plenty of BG football this year. Do they qualify as anybody who knows anything about football? or do they qualify as anybody whose seen even a down of BG football? One would wonder...hmmm. The corner does more than just cover when the football comes his direction. If he plays 80 snaps and the ball comes his way 8 times, what's he doing on the other 72 snaps. I would assume, something...hmmm. If he got beat on one deep post, what did he do the other 79 snaps? The UT game where he got beat, he also had PBUs and an interception. This doesn't even count the times when the QB did not throw to his receiver because he was doing his job. How many times a game does that happen? You wouldn't know unless you specifically watched him on every down. One play does not tell the tale.

Hmmm, do I detect a snitty attitude? Hmmmmm, do I detect someone being a little overprotective of a player? Hmmmm.

Keon was clearly the playmaker in the secondary this year. But even being the best defensive back for BG in 2004 is akin to being the world's tallest midget.

Our defense finished in the middle of the pack during MAC competition. That's not too bad, but when you consider that they Falcons were ahead in most of the games, thus forcing the hand of the opposition, you would expect a real advantage for the defense. Even if you're not a coach who watched every single play. Hmmmmm.

Our defensive statistics make us look a lot better on paper than we did on the field. Opposing teams clearly realized that throwing toward Keon (6 int) was not a good first option, so Jelani got a lot more balls thrown his way. When you lead the conference in passes broken up, you a right to be proud, but you have to wonder what made the opponents throw the ball your way so often.

Did the opposing coaches, who watch a whole lot of film, see some sort of weakness that they thought they could exploit? Hmmmmm...

Not over protective, not snitty, but some have been over critical about JJ. Just my observation, but there are 10 other defenders on the field and none have received his criticism. I can think of many defenders that have not done a "great" job, but no one else gets called out. The defense as a unit made mistakes. Sometimes a corner stands out more than others because if they make a mistake it can end up being a touchdown. If a linebacker misses a tackle, there are several other lines of defense to make the play and prevent the touchdown. Does getting beat on a few plays mean a player is not draft worthy? I think not. I don't know of any DB at any level that has never been beat. As far as the ball coming his way alot, its the soft coverage we play. If they are going to line him up 10 yds. off the receiver, any half decent team should be smart enough to throw his way and take it. I just hope next season we don't line our DBs up 10 yards off the receiver and allow them to make plays. As for Keon, his position puts him in a position to make those plays. A good athelete with a nose for the ball will make those plays. It doesn't take a great cover man to do it. I too have seen the games and I too have seen Keon make mistakes and get beat too. Teams have not had any fear in throwing towards Keon in one on one coverages. Ask Memphis.
