Just across the wires, the Browns have released Garcia. Still alot of question marks surrounding the QB situation, but I wonder if this means Holcomb is sticking as the #1, if they're preparing to draft Smith/Rodgers and throw their career away, where McCown stands, and most importantly for this thread, what it means for Josh's future in the brown and orange...

That is the first of my multiple predictions coming true. We'll see how the rest go.

John Clayton talked about this on Sportscenter. I think the elluded to Holcombe coming back and talked about McCown. No mention of Josh. But then his whole point ended up being that he expects the Browns to draft Rogers or Smith at #3.

Sounds like they'll be keeping Holcomb on this season, likely as the #1. Mike & Mike are postulating this morning that they'll still go out and sign a veteran to come in and start this season.

If they re-sign Holcomb & bring in a different FA vet to start Josh & Luke will be duking it out to hold down the #3 spot. If they sign a FA vet & draft a QB that will be the death knell of Josh in Cleveland.

It's looking pretty grim for Josh in Cleveland :(

Cleveland should trade down for multiple picks and draft some OL because then whoever the QB is stands a chance of actually living to see 2006.

I can guarantee that is what they want to do.

I can also nearly guarantee that they will have a VERY hard time finding a decent deal to do this. The way the draft works the #3 overall pick will sign a contract with a raise over what last year's #3 overall pick made. Not one player in this draft is worthy of that sort of contract, there is just no top level talent in this draft. The RBs are good, but none are Edge or LdT good. The QBs are good, but neither are Eli or Vick good.

The teams that are lower in the draft know they'll just get nearly as good of a player for far less salary.

Trading down sounds great, but in order to do so you must find someone willing to trade up...its going to be a tough year to find that suitor, unless you're willing to take it in the rear on the value of your pick. There is a chart that all NFL people use that rates the value of each pick. If you're going to go into a trade you want the values to come close. To come close for the #3 pick you would have to get 2 first rounders. There is almost no way that anyone would give up 2 first rounders for this year's #3 pick, there just isn't a player out there they want.

The only way this could change is if some team that needs a QB falls in love with one of Rogers/Smith. I don't see it happening. I think the Browns are gonna be stuck at #3. I'm thinking Pac-Man if I had to guess right now as to the pick.

Still too early to talk about draft speculation, but I will anyway since it is fun. I think a lot depends on how some players perform at the combine. That is where some players take off up the draft boards. If there is a couple of guys toward the top that just wows everyone at the combine, the Browns might get some interest in the # 3 pick. I really think they are hoping Frye falls to the second round and they would snag him there for sure. But after playing well at the Senior Bowl, if Frye has a good workout, i don't think there is anyway he makes it through round 1.

As far as assigning values to each pick, I doubt Butch Davis understood that. The value of the #7 pick plus an early second round pick is much greater then the value of the # 6 pick, especially when five picks have already been made and the team with the # 6 pick is NOT taking the guy you want. :x

I'm with you on the Charlie in #2 train Warthog. FWIW while Charlie played exceptional in the game, he only played well in the practices. Most reports that I read post-senior bowl stated that he didn't do enough to get into the top round, but solidified himself into the 2nd.

A great workout could change that.
