This is kind of a silly topic but I wonder about it every once in awhile.
Had OJ Simpson never had the whole ordeal with the white bronco and what preceded it, do you think we would just call Omar Jacobs "OJ"? I think we would, or we would at least do it sometimes. I think it is funny how Simpson pretty much ruined the name OJ. It's like it would be demeaning to be called that now.
Yeah I'm bored.

well ur right....this is a silly topic but its one worth reading i guess.....i bet alot more people would call him OJ because its the truth sayin that OJ Simpson ruined the name OJ because of what he did but Omar Jacobs has hit that level that Lebron James and Kobe Bryant have hit...he has that "first" name thing and what i mean by that is people just refer to him as Omar just as they do Kobe and Lebron and Shaq......he is that popular now but then again alot of that might have to do with all those first names being pretty rare when it comes to popularity of the name.
I Like O.J.

O.J. Anderson that is. Super Bowl MVP, 1990. Any other famous O.J.'s?
I don't know any other O.J.'s but its a great name that brings back alot of memories as a kid in the late 60's, early 70's.
I think that Omar could be the next Daunte, but who knows? Daunte wasn't Daunte until the NFL.

Hey Basketball Fans,. . . .
The hype started about three years ago for then junior high basketball phenom O.J. Mayo. . . He is the next LeBron, just wait , I don't think anyone will have a problem calling him O.J.
The major difference, I think, is that O.J. Simpson is Orenthal James Simpson therefore his first name is O.J. Calling Omar O.J. is more like MJ for Jordan- not too many people get called the first initial last initial thing.

Of course Omar hasn't hit the level that Lebron, Shaq, or Kobe are at. They are international superstars.
However, I will agree that Omar is a unique name that can stand on its own. If O4 does blow up and make big in the NFL, I think its safe to say that everyone can just call him Omar and everyone will know exactly who we are talking about. The same way they say Big Ben or TO.
I agree that OJ is not the most flattering nickname these days, I'd rather just call him Omar or Omarvalous. Some people want to call him O4 but I think that's already been done with J5 and It doesn't have the same ring J5 had.

I heard about O.J. Mayo 3 years ago on jjhuddle. People saying he will be better than LeBron. Who knows I haven't heard anything about him lately until your post.

And why was Omar at the basketball game? Because they were recognizing all student athletes who had a GPA of 3.0 or higher in the Fall semester.

Congrats Omar and to all our fine
student athletes.

Congrats for sure, but the least they could've done was actually stick around to WATCH the second half.

yeah that's the thing...all the SA's want fan support for their sport, yet they don't even support their fellow SA's.

I think that's quite a damning statement based on limited knowledge of one event.
