Maybe I'm just old-school

I know I'm in the minority here, but I really dislike pre-game smack talk. I love talking about a team's chances and having reasonable dialogue with fans of opposing teams. But the "we're gonna stomp you" stuff ... I dunno, I can just do without it. I hold the same attitude I did when I played sports - enter the game with confidence and play with confidence, enthusiasm and focus. I'll admit that I'm OK with post-game trash-talking, which probably seems inconsistent, but, well, there it is.

I've really enjoyed most of the OU fans here. The banter in most of the (non-CaliSooner) threads has been spirited, but intelligent. I hope that's a sign of things to come.

Yeah, I know, I'm getting old.

Nothing inconsistant about that! The post-game stuff is based on facts. Talking about how bad you are going to stomp a team before the game is just disrespectful, even if it turns out to be true.

I REALLY can't stand the people whose ego depends on the success of their football team. They think they are on the team, it is sickening.

With that said, I am still amazed that we have only had 2 overly boisterous OU fans. What great fans OU has, especially compared to the other BCS schools we have played.

Smack

Many Sooner fans will not talk smack on our boards unless a visitor opens the ball.

Of course, Texas is the one exception. We generally smack them around, no matter what.

I know that you guys have a fine team, and so I would be reticent to say that you cant win or that we will blow you out.

I do, however, have confidence that you will have to play an outstanding game to win in Norman.

Best wishes to all Bowling Green fans.

I don't mind a little trash talk if it's done with a good spirit and a lighter touch. The "Gregg Brandon stops at highway yield signs" stuff is a good example.

I actually don't mind the pre-game smack talk, since at least the smack talkers are taking a risk at looking stupid/eating some crow. Post-game smack talk is just irritating, because we've already seen the final score. There's no need to push the issue.

Some of us think it is disrespectful to talk smack after the game, too. What's the point? Don't get me wrong, I love talking about the game. But you don't have to know anything about the team, the game, or even football to talk smack. I also think that talking smack says less about the team that you are playing/played than it says about you as a fan.

I'm glad only two of our traveling messge board idiots showed up. I guess the rest of them either couldn't find Ay-ziggy-zoomba.com or they decided to skip the OOC schedule and head straight for the Big XII.
