Arkansas not going to wear pink jerseys

Seems as though Houston Nutt used the pink jersey as punishment to players. But now will stop doing that because it might offend breast cancer survivors. Before I start on my rant, let me first state that my Mom is a breast cancer survivor so I am well aware of that issue. That being said, what the hell does the color of a football jersey have to do with offending someone? Why does everything have to be tied up and related to some cause. Given my ugly mug, soft body, and balding head, am I offending breast cancer survivors if I wear a pink shirt? Maybe we should all go back to Adam and Eve and walk around nekkid. That way I won't have to worry that my actions might somehow be offending some group because I am wearing a particular color shirt that day. This politcal correctness crap has gone way too far.

I just saw that article and was about to post it as well.

To quote the late, great Sherriff Buford T. Justice of Texas "What in the hell is the world a comin' to?"

A 60-year-old guy I worked with once told me similar advice. "I'd hate to be growing up these days like you, Mike. The world is all f*#$ed up."

PC is definitely over the top in many cases.

Of course, Penn State's jerseys started out as pink and black. Wonder if a "throwback" jersey would cause a commotion!

A question:

You seem awfully upset. How is this an imposition on your life, exactly? Does this mean you are going to stop having to wear pink, too?

Also, a thought:

If Nutt really wanted to punish his players, he'd make 'em wear Ravens jerseys.

Well, I actually don't have any pink shirts so that in particular is not an issue for me.

The issue is that there is no connection between a football teams jersey color and breast cancer. So why would any breast cancer survivor/group be offended by a football player being punished by being forced to wear a pink jersey? It is this ability of special interest groups to make wild connections between thier cause and everything else that goes on in the world. Is the breast cancer group offended that Mary Kay cosmetics gives out pink cadillacs to their top sales people? Are they offended when some guy has to wear pinks socks because he didn't realize you can't mix reds and whites in the laundry? What makes them think they have sole ownership of the use of pink in society now?

As Bowling Green fans, do we have ownership of any use of orange and brown in the world? Can we force anybody who uses those colors in a negative fashion to cease and desist because it could have a negative connotation to our beloved University? NO! Just because some group uses a color to reprensent its cause it does allow them to dictate how and when that color can/should be used in the rest of society.

As to how this effect me personally? I guess I am afraid that I may be giving someone the idea that I support homeless, Jewish lesbian porn stars because I am wearing a blue shirt with red trim when I didn't realize they laid claim to that combination. What I really meant to support was just lesbian porn stars, who of course are represented pink with black lace trim.

Perhaps Coach should've just bought some black lace then! Surely Lesbian Porn stars are a worthy cause, and they wouldn't have gotten fired up over the issue I'm sure!

I agree with Warthog...and others about this PC crap. I am sooooooo tired of having the PC crowd trying to force this mess down my throat. If my speech offends you, don't listen. If programming on radio/TV offends you, there is a power button or a channel changer for a reason. If some form of art offends you, don't look at it. But don't tell me what I can or can't listen, watch or read. This is America...or it was at one time.
Until the PC Chief Bill Clinton and his crowd came along, it was fine. Ever since then, "Watch that you don't offend someone".

I'm Patriotically Correct...and if that offends you, tough. The PC police can bite me.

And GO FALCONS!!!! (hopefully I didn't offend any bird watchers! )

Lesbians seem to be a hot topic lately..... it must be spring. Spring is when a young man's fancy turns to lesbians.

Whenver someone starts discussing "PC" issues, I always think of the song
"The Liberal Well Intenioned Blues" from the National Lampoon Radio Hour
(an idea and cast that Lorne Michaels later stole and turned into SNL)

"I wish I was a Negro, with lots of Negro soul,
so I could stay true to my ethnic roots and still play rock and roll.
If I was a funky Negro, eatin’ soul food barbecues,
then I wouldn’t have to sing the middle class liberal Well-Intentioned Blues.

I wish I was an Indian, a grown-up Sioux papoose,
so when I get drunk on a beer and a half I’d have a good excuse.
I’d be a noble savage, wouldn’t ever wear no shoes,
and I wouldn’t have to sing the middle class liberal Well-Intentioned Blues.

I wish I was a wetback on a strike in a lettuce patch
or a slant-eyed peasant with Viet Cong stashed underneath my thatch.
I’d only ever cross a picket line to pay my union dues
and I wouldn’t have to sing the middle class liberal Well-Intentioned Blues.

But I am not a Negro, not a red man nor a Mex. (Join me, kids!)
I’m a member of the oppressing color, language, age and sex.
I sympathize with the Arab cause; I feel for the put-upon Jews.
And I keep singing —
the middle class liberal —
humanitarian —
meaningful dialogue —
we are all responsible Well-Intentioned Blues. "

Or even better...this snippet from Phil Och's "Love me I'm a Liberal"

Once I was young and impulsive
I wore every conceivable pin
Even went to the socialist meetings
Learned all the old union hymns
But I've grown older and wiser
And that's why I'm turning you in
So love me, love me, love me, I'm a liberal

I think you need to change your name as "Freak" can offend so many people on so many levels. :P

As for me, the PETA folks will have to pry the keyboard letters from my dead fingers before I give up Warthog.

I don't understand all the anger here.

Really, I don't.

If you guys want to wear pink, no one is stopping you.

No one is forcing you to wear pink, either.

I don't get what this has to do with any of our lives in any way.

And I certainly don't understand what this has to do with Bill Clinton.

We're talking about a decision made by a football coach in Arkansas, for goodness sake.

Arkansas is hardly a hot bed of cultural elitism (whatever that might be). Hell, in Arkansas, they say a little prayer every night thanking the Lord they don't live in Mississippi.

And what is with this obsession with cultural elitism, anyway? What *is* cultural elitism? Who are these people? Where are they? What are their magic powers?

I mean, the GOP owns Washington. The GOP owns Columbus. Why aren't they doing something about this?

Folks can rail about these mysterious cultural elites all day and all night and you know what?

All that rage isn't going to bring one job back to Ohio.

All that rage won't lower any of our health insurance costs by one penny.

All that rage won't lower tuition at BGSU.

All that rage won't feed one hungry person.

All that rage won't stop one woman from deciding to have an abortion.

I don't get it.

I don't understand any of this.

As a mod, I probably shouldn't be posting this. But, I'm mystified. Really, I am.

If what this football coach in Arkansas has done is truly outrageous, than maybe some of you should wear pink for the next three weeks in protest.

What is outragous is that the coach STOPPED doing what he was doing. You are right on the point Schade in that Arkansas football players being forced to wear a pink jersey has no impact on whether we find a cure for breast cancer. And further, what harm is brought to breast cancer survivors if a football player is forced to wear a pink jersey for loafing? NONE! So why should Houston Nutt changing his football practice policies to not offend breast cancer survivors? He shouldn't. The two have nothing to do with each other. So the breast cancer survivors who are offended by this practice tactic need to get over it and realize it has nothing to do with them.
