Mruczkowski draft info

Sleepers: Center Scott Mruczkowski (Bowling Green) is a four-year starter and, while clearly a work in progress, might merit late-round consideration on bloodlines alone. His older brother, Gene, is on the New England roster and, after stashing him away for a few years now, Patriots coaches feel he might be ready to contribute.

Forget "Merits late round consideration", I think he should go in the 4th round. Find 5 centers in the country better.....It's just the bias against the MAC we can't seem to shake off.

Most of what I've seen has him rated as the fourth or fifth center in the draft. I researched this for an earlier post (and am too lazy to find it again), but draft history would indicate he'll get picked up in the fourth or fifth round. I'd love to see him here in Philly!

Yeah, there might not be that many centers better than him in college, but the reality of the situation is that most if not all NFL teams already have a starting and a back up center in place, so there is just not the demand to warrant a 4th or 5th round pick on a center IMO.

One thing he has in his favor is that he has the size to slide over to guard so he could back up at two positions his first year or two in the league.

Agreed. And also the best of the bunch of centers this year is not going to be picked in the first round either. Baas is the best, but he's WAY better at guard. There is no top notch center in this year's draft, and that will shift the whole group down.

Mruczkowski was listed as the 6th best center on a site (I can't remember where I saw this) I checked out a few days ago. He will be drafted, IMO.
He's too good not to be.

BTW, Does Keon Newson have a chance to get drafted? You guys that follow the NFL, thoughts? UDFA?

I think Scott will get drafted, which may put me in the minority.

I think Cole has a great chance to catch on as a UDFA. I heard the Jets were taking a hard look at him.

Keon is a long-shot, even as an UDFA. The thread about Hawk getting a look by the Steelers intrigues me, but I'm taking a wait and see on that.

Hawk kind of reminds me of Charlie Williams from the mid 90's teams. He wasn't as highly regarded as some of the other guys on the team, but he wound up gettig picked in the third round by the (how 'bout them) Cowboys.

I'm not saying that Hawk is going that high in the draft, or even that he'll get drafted, but it wouldn't suprise me a bit if he were to have the most success at the next level.

Flip: Hawk has all to tools and if he doesn't make it in the NFL, it will be a real missed opportunity for a lot of teams. He needs to get a REAL look by the right team. Could be a great find!

Last I heard from Scott (on Monday of this week), he was still projected 4th/5th round, but the Texans have expressed recent interest in drafting him as early as the 3rd round. The Bengals have also expressed interest in drafting him, probably in the 4th round, as their current center is in his mid-30s and was injured last season. Anywhere he goes, he is likely to be both a back-up center and guard for his first few years, but says he will be drafted as a center.

He ran for the scouts on Tuesday, his 23rd birthday, and had a 5.22 40-time, just slightly better than the 5.3 he is listed as on ESPN.com's draft page.

Keon has an agent, and I hope he will be picked up, but surgery on his knee after the season to repair his meniscus might hurt his chances. I do not know anything more about Cole or Hawk, but I hope the best to both of them. I know Mitch Crossley has tested at the Pro Days as well, but don't know his status either. I would also like to see Shaun Suisham get a chance to kick somewhere, maybe CFL.

I think he's already been drafted in the CFL somewhere, so he's got a nice "safety net" if the NFL passes him up.

The Ottawa Renegades own his rights if he goes to the CFL. They drafted him last year.

Pat Fleming is punting with Ottawa. Watched him on TV last summer when we went to Niagara Falls.

Shaun will kick professionally, no doubt. Sure will miss seeing his girlfriend at the games, though. What a babe.

This makes sense to me.

Look at Hawk.

He's a pretty big guy.

He could end up on some team as (in their mind) a project, and be a nice gem, a possible possession / third down receiver type guy.
