and in another shocking development... three ball state players went in the 6th round. ridgeway, safety justin beriault, and the punter reggie hodges. who would have guessed that ball state had three NFL players on their roster last year.

And two guys from CMU.

Based on the NFL drafting of these players, BG's coaching staff must've done a hell of a job with "minimal talent"....

And Ball State must of done very little with a hell of a lot of talent. THREE players drafted and they still were no good. WOW!

Rumor around Scott's family and friends is that his agent really screwed him. Scott did not run in the first pro day here at BG because of a sore groin muscle. Although he did run at a later pro day, it appears that many NFL teams still thought Scott was hurt - in other words, his agent screwed him. As early as the 5th round, many teams were calling Scott's agent to discuss picking him up in free agency, but thankfully, the Chargers drafted him. It is unfortunate that the 4th highest rated center by Mel Kiper and others was the 11th center picked in the draft, but I am glad Scott is going to a good team and will be given the opportunity yet again to prove his doubters wrong (as he did when coming here after not being offered by bigger programs, most notably Purdue where his brother played).

Best of luck to Cole, Keon, Hawk, Suisham, and any other Falcons pursuing professional football in the NFL or elsewhere!

I really think our offensive scheme is a HUGE deterrant from any NFL team taking our players. Compared to other MAC teams we've got a ton more talent than many of them, but we don't play an "NFL" style scheme.

When you play in the MAC on one hand, and play with a "gimmicky" offense on the other, that's a lot of negative to overcome for an NFL personnel guy. Oh well, our guys will just have to prove 'em wrong.

Just wait until next year. Our "gimmicky" offense will likely put three to five players into the NFL draft next year. It's more of function of who was eligible for the draft than the NFL not loving our offensive style. If this was the case that NFL teams were not drafting our players because the offense is to "gimmicky", then Utah shouldn't of had 6 players drafted using that logic.

You're probably right. I do think that as we start to see more of the Urban/Brandon era recruits leaving after 4 productive, WINNING, seasons they'll get taken higher & higher in the draft. It is obvious that we've had much better athletes on the field in recent years, and that will bear out with future draft picks.

Even still every Utah offensive player taken there was mention about their scheme, and how it would translate. Similarly they always questioned Spurrier's Florida players in the day because of the scheme. It will always be a questionmark, but as we produce better athletes, I think you'll see more drafted.

I can't help but think that, especially in the case of WR's, its not so much the "gimmicky", is that its spread out so much. without looking back at the numbers, we must have had at least 5 or 6 guys with 30 or so plus catches. While Dante Ridgeway is a stud receiver, I can't help but think that catching almost 2/3 of his teams passes himself raised his draft stock. As far as the O-line, the gimmickry might play more of a role, since we run alot of misdirection type stuff for our running plays, and alot of quick release for passing plays, there just isn't the regular need for the O-line to repeatedly blast open big holes or show that they can hold a block and keep the QB on his feet.

Now, looking toward next year, if PJ Pope is even a shadow of his first three years and doesn't get a serious draft look, I'd be shocked.

I don't know. I mean, we've been to two straight bowl games with a dynamic offense and lots of media exposure. And when the draft is over, we've had as many guys picked as The Citadel and Saginaw Valley State. Not exactly grand company.
