I talked to James a few days ago and he said he'd heard nothing coming his way on the NFL signing front. Has anything new been reported recently?

I think that the Hawk would be perfect for Arena Football. He certainly has the size and strength to get separation against the smaller DB's.

I feel bad for the guy.

But the NFL isn't the only way to make a career out of football.

I'm with Schade. When I saw the run on receivers late in the NFL Draft, I kept cringing. I saw a number of guys from relatively no-name schools getting called and I kept thinking, Hawk has great size, decent measurables and played great ball at a D-I school that went to two bowl games. What the heck?

Doesn't look like he's going to get a shot at the NFL right now, though.

I think his numbers from last season really hurt him. He is a much better receiver than his numbers indicated. It's too bad.

awesome has it exactly right. Hawk, get into the AFL. Hawkins is strong- very strong- and can separate from the defense in Arena ball.

He could play some defense too and crush some people. Or be an Offensive Specialist.

Hawk, tell your people to get in contact with Arena Football- if you have any interest after getting that degree that is.

I am personally recommending the Las Vegas Gladiators and the rocket armed and pin point accurate QB Clint Dolezel. I can see it all now- the Arena Bowl with Hawk on one side and Marcus Nash on the other. The AFL- where football, rock concerts, pro wrestling and super fan friendliness converge. I love it.

Or go check with the Columbus Destroyers- maybe you can start Saturday there. They stink.

With as deep as our receiver corps were, it was hard for any one player to put up stellar numbers. Thus explaining not one of them making 1st team MAC, which was still a joke. Hopefully JHAWK can make to the NFL, even if he has to go via another league.

Exactly, try following a similar path through arena football like this guy did to get back on the NFL's radar.

I wonder if this will hurt us with future WR recruits with the Ron Lewis mentality?

Our system utilizes a ton of WR and builds up big Offensive numbers and often produces W's but will it turn away some good players?

I don't think so, Charles Sharon, Steve Sanders, and PJ Pope are all going to graduate with a lot of career TD's and receptions.

You can get catches in our offense. You're not going to get big yards, but you can get catches and TDs. I just don't think Hawk is an NFL player, or even close. He's not better than Redd, and he isn't an NFL receiver. What hurt him was that he wasn't consistently even our #4 guy. McGrady got some catches he should have gotten. He was a good MAC receiver who had a good career here, he's a champion and he deserves our thanks and respect. But playing on the next level is really tough.

As for hurting us with Ron Lewis-types, I will make two points. First, I have heard Coach Dakich say he only recruits players who say they want to play in the NBA, so we can't be mad when they think that. Second, I think the idea that's it is easier to get to the NFL through a major conference is already factored in to decisions people make, which is why we rarely get someone with an real offer from a major conference school. I know it happens, but not very often, and when it does, there are often academic or other issues.

I agree with that, my point was what about a guy like Dante Ridgeway.

A player like that is not on the big school radars, wants to go to a MAC school and immediately become a big dogg in the small yard. He goes to Ball State or Kent over BG where he is THE dogg, instead of coming to Bowling Green, winning a bowl game and fitting in to a system where you have 2-3 other guys getting an equal amount of catches.
