As many of us predicted, the 12th game is going to be permanent and 1 I-AA game can count every season, so we can forget about getting any more bowls that we aren't tied to.
They did loosen I-A requirements for attendance.

well, it's not doom and gloom, but it's not that good for us.
allowing the 12th game to be a 1-AA every year will hurt in scheduling. what's the incentive to schedule a bowling green when every top 1-A school can schedule 1-AA teams? the BCS needs to counter this by officially bringing back the strength of schedule component.
the 15,000 paid or actual attendance won't effect us.

Well, it effects the viability of our league, and that effects us.

I wouldn't pick this apart and say this part is good or bad. Overall, this is a negative for the MAC and that, as they say, is the bottom line.

NCAA dropped the ball here. I'm fine with both a 12th game and changing the attendance requirement. What they forgot to do was make it so teams would have to have a minimum of 7 wins to qualify for post-season play. I don't think it's to much to ask that bowl teams be above .500.

I read an NCAA News report, and it indicated that teams will be required to have winning records to go bowling.
The rule that allowed some 6-6 teams in for the previous 12-game seasons was temporary and no longer applies.
Hopefully, we can keep them from monkeying with the rule yet again.

That's the first I've heard that. So, it's a wash. It's harder to get in a bowl, because you have to win 58% of your games vs. 54% of your games (7-5 vs. 6-5), but it's easier because you can count wins vs. I-AA every year.

The Board also discussed, but did not reach a decision on how the 12-game season affects bowl eligibility. Board members did indicate their support for preserving the current legislation that defines bowl eligibility as a team with a winning record. During the 12-game seasons in 2002 and 2003, temporary legislation was passed to allow teams with a 6-6 record to be bowl-eligible, but that legislation has sunset.

So they indicated their support, but didn't set a standard. We'll see where they come down on it. I'm once again losing faith the NCAA to step up and do the right thing.

This is the way I read it: In the absence of any other action, .500 or below won't cut it for bowl games in the future. That's the standard.
Since people are indicating support, that standard may stand.

The NCAA recently passed legislation providing for a 12th regular-season football game each season, beginning in 2006. Wisconsin, along with all of the other members of the Big Ten, will be seeking non-conference opponents for that slot. The Big Ten wants to conclude conference seasons prior to Thanksgiving week. With that parameter in place, it means our 12th game will slide into what has been historically our “bye” week. The scheduling challenges of that arrangement are significant. The Big Ten is working with the Mid-American Conference in trying to match up schools from both leagues to fill these 12th-game dates. As I’ve said previously, the 12th game is a good idea. Players like to play, coaches like to coach and fans like to watch games. An additional contest is good on all three fronts.
