2 athletes at BGSU to appear in court

BOWLING GREEN - Two Bowling Green State University football players were charged with disorderly conduct after police saw them urinating outside a downtown bar over the weekend.

William L. "P.J." Pope, 21, a starting tailback from Fairfield, Ohio, and Jelani Jordan, 21, a defensive back from Atlanta, were arrested about 2:15 a.m. Saturday in the 100 block of East Court Street.

They are to appear in Bowling Green Municipal Court May 11 on the charge, a minor misdemeanor punishable by a maximum fine of $150.

Can't say I haven't done it, but I usually look around for cops first !

College students that drink sometimes get in trouble, plain and simple. I'm not saying they shouldn't be more careful, but stuff like this happens all the time.

Hey, at least they didn't beat anybody up !

Just goes to show you even our athletes are human. However, that was kind of a stupid thing to do.

Yes, it's not good news. But on the other hand, this along with the Piepkow incident gives our coaching staff a chance to sit the guys down and say, "OK-- we've had enough".

As iI mentioned on the maccbs board, it is odd to me which athlete infractions get reported by larger media outlets. Not two weeks ago I noticed a charge of public urination against Edwin Hood. I have also seen Keon Newson get charged with Failutre To Maintain a liter free yard and of course there are quite a few traffic violations.

Reading the Sentinel's Blotter is one of my pastimes- looking for people I know and what not.

I engaged in this activity so frequently that people just assumed I was a fountain.

What's the big deal. This guy seems to urinate it in public all of the time.

Lets just hope that they don't get suspended for the first 2 games.

I think this is the rules
1 game suspension for number 1 in public,
2 game suspension for nubmer 2.

I could have done without that. ;)

Perhaps the cops should have let them go with a warning and a scare. You know, hold them for a few minutes and make them think they are going to get busted.

I got less for getting in a fight outside of a bar (not in BG, of course).

I understand the desire to present the best team on gameday, and I do not deny that I agree, but with the recent number of events like this, I think that maybe they should be suspended... I have no doubt that Brandon would suspend them, not only as punishment, but also as a real reminder to the team that, as someone put earlier, "enough is enough." Do I want to see them lose - hell no - but I'd rather have the players suspended than have Bowling Green get a reputation for having rough and rowdy boys chalked up to "boys will be boys." Boys become men and as representatives of the university, they need to get that straight.
