Mid-American

• Freshman Luke Alexander, who graduated from high school early to enroll at Bowling Green in January, hauled in five passes for 108 yards and two scores in the spring game.

• At Eastern Michigan, former QB Ken Bohnet is being looked at as a tight end. The 6-3, 219-pound sophomore played quarterback as a freshman in 2003 and backed up his brother Matt at the spot last season.

• With only two running backs available in the Miami (Ohio) spring game, three quarterbacks, paced by senior Josh Betts, combined for 491 passing yards. Betts completed nine of 16 for 198 yards and two TDs.

• In coach Frank Solich's first spring game, Ohio's defense posted eight sacks and DE Seth Ream broke up four passes.

• New Western Michigan coach Bill Cubit watched his son, Ryan, pass for 314 yards and a TD in the spring game.

I especially like the Miami comment. Implying their was a lot of passing,
three Miami QBs combined for 491 yards. Didn't Omar get that many in the first half of our Spring game? :lol:

Wasn't Betts the Miami QB that choked in every big game they lost? Lots of swagger, and nothing to back it up when the chips were down.

As for Ohio, defense isn't their big issue, its the fact they haven't got any offense. The spread offense might have worked if they didn't have WRs that couldn't catch a piano if they were standing under it.

Betts may not have lead Miami to the MAC Championship or a bowl win last year and he isn't as good as Omar Jacobs, but I think he's a pretty good quarterback that will be alot better this year. He will have Martin Nance back from injury and Ryne Robinson at WR also. He doesn't have a proven running back to help him out, but someone could step up. I think most of their line is back, which will make things easier for Betts.

Miami is going to be pretty good and we're going to have to play well to beat them in Oxford. Let's face it, that game in November will probably be for the MAC East title. I don't think many people see another team challenging BG or Miami in the East. Without a win in Oxford, we're probably sitting at home in bowl season and all this pre-season hype is forgotten. We better show up each and every week this fall and play our best game of the season against Betts and Miami or we could very easily finish 2nd in the East.

Taking off my orange and brown-colored glasses, I must think of three indisputable facts:
1) We haven't beaten Miami in a long time;
2) We haven't won an important MAC road game since Clinton was president;
3) Those two trends come together this year.
