Anyone notice that he's on the Philadelphia Eagles roster?
Eagles cut Freddie "Fred Ex" Mitchell, former No. 1 pick and the rest of the receiver corps is up in the air. If the Eagles keep 5 WR, look at his chances ...
1. T.O. He'll be back
2. Pinkston - forever labeled a wuss by the Philly fans & press, but the coaches seem to like the guy
3. Greg Lewis - really made a good impression near the end of last season and could easily be the #3 receiver in 2005
4. Reggie Brown - high draft pick will get lots of latitude
5. Right now, you'd have to think that Billy McMullen would be the last receiver. But he came to the team pretty highly regarded as a third-round pick and hasn't done much to impress anyone.
Redd will be in competition with Mullen, 6 rookies and two players with one year of experience. An awfully crowded field, to be sure.
What would help?
Well, the Eagles need help on returns. Those of you who saw Redd play, can he be a return man? Also, a receiver who can handle himself in traffic, in particular over the middle, would have a leg up on the competition. How does Redd rate in these areas?

Not sure he has the breakaway speed to be a return guy. Could be wrong though.1987alum wrote:Well, the Eagles need help on returns. Those of you who saw Redd play, can he be a return man?
I feel much more confident in my assesment that the guy can take a hit over the middle and hang on to the football. A certain t.d. catch at NIU in 2002 comes to mind. Between getting pelted with pennies and verbally harrassed on my way back to the car, I remember thinking he probably got a few fillings jostled on catching the pass. Also, a receiver who can handle himself in traffic, in particular over the middle, would have a leg up on the competition. Taking hits over the middle is a little easier than taking a hit and getting slammed into a wall like he did in the AFL! I think that his hands and his ability to take a hit are his best assets. I think he definitely lacks the speed to be a good return man
I don't think he even has a shot to make the Practice squad. They love Justin Jenkins, an UDFA last year, and Chauncey Stovall from Florida St.
Here are the guys that he has to compete with for the 5th WR and Practice Squad.
Adams, Grant(Rookie)-undrafted
Perez, Carlos-(1 year)-NFL Europe right now
Jenkins, Justin(1 year)
Stovall, Chauncey(Rookie)-undrafted
Peebler, Jason(Rookie)-undrafted
Jones, Jared(Rookie)-undrafted
McMullen, Billy(3rd year)Most WR's start to break out by year 3. I don't see the Eagles giving up on him yet
West, Isaac(Rookie)-undrafted

Well, agreed, I guess. Trying to look at the glass as half full, of course. McMullen barely saw the field last year and although Greg Lewis got some good press as the season wound down, his numbers are still weak. There has to be a reason the Eagles are bringing 13 receivers to camp.

Not in the NFL it won't. You have to have the speed to either gut a return up the middle or outrun lateral pursuit. if you don't have the ability to take it to the house on a return, you ain't gonna see the field. I wish Redd the best but I'm not sure he can be a return man in the NFL. He might have found a good niche in the AFL and hopefully that continues to work out for him if the League doesn't

Redd cut in NFL Europe
I always root for BG players to succeed, but I can't see how the NFL thinks he has talent if he got cut by his NFL Europe team. The Eagles sent him overseas and it didn't work out. That can't look good to the Eagle front office.

I must have missed that. Sorry to hear that Robert didn't make the squad in NFL Europe. Here's the waiver-wire transaction from March 20.duckunder53 wrote:I always root for BG players to succeed, but I can't see how the NFL thinks he has talent if he got cut by his NFL Europe team. Re: Redd cut in NFL Europe
I almost missed it as well, but looking for him on the NFL Network kinda got me thinking. So I ended up looking up the rosters of all of the teams and I didn't find him on there. Then I found out why, he was waived.UK Peregrine wrote:I must have missed that. Sorry to hear that Robert didn't make the squad in NFL Europe. Here's the waiver-wire transaction from March 20.

TO wasn't a problem at all last year. Just this offseason when he hired his new agent.golfertk14 wrote:regarding T.O.:yes the guy's amazing, but his attitude...do they just deal with it because of his talent or do they eventually come down hard on him?
Once training camp and the preseason come around everything will be fine.
Redd re-signs with Thunder
Robert Redd re-signed with the Berlin Thunder this week and had 2 catches for 16 yards and 2 punt returns for 15 yards in today's game.
