Where We Stand

We have the opportunity with our schedule and our talent to make a spectacular entry intro a privileged place. BG is standing at a gate it has never stood at before.
We have earned this opportunity. The responsibility lies squarely on our shoulders. You can't ask for more.
If we crash, it will hurt but it won't damage our program beyond repair. If we succeed, it could propel us into a new era. The excitement is mounting.

Salsa,
What's with all of the "we" and "our" stuff? Did you accept the Defensive Coordinator position or something?

That is the understatement of the decade!!
Great post Salsa....2005 COULD be the best year ever.
"We" means the players, coaches, students, cheerleaders, University, fans, graduates, equipment folks, front office folks, grounds keepers and everyone else involved with this football program.
"Finish the Job 2005" tour opens 9/3/05 in Madison....let's bust the BCS!
GO FALCONS!!! ONLY 117 days to go. See? It's flying by!

I can't stand all the BCS and undefeated talk. I don't think we should think about that until/if we are 10-0 going into the Toledo game. Although Wisconsin and Boise are beatable, they are still Wisconsin and Boise. Lately, it seems people are just passing us through those games solely because of the preseason hype surrounding Omar. We can beat Wisconsin, but it will be close if we do, echoeing Purdue and Northwestern. Undefeated would be nice, but the only thing I think any of us can be realistically shooting for is a MAC Championship. We have a great team, but look how many great teams end the year with 2 losses let alone 1. Any MAC team would have to go unbeated to even have a shot at the BCS, and Undefeated is not a realistic expectation (except for USC) for any team, especially one in the MAC.

Point well taken....but there isn't anything wrong with aspiring to greater heights. Beating Boise State on their turf is gonna be the most difficult test we've seen in the last few years....including road games at OK and OSU.
I'm just saying the potential is there....the games still need to be played.

Even better, that's the only thing I will actually be disappointed if we don't get. I will trade both Boise and Wisconsin to win a MAC title. National respect, you say? How much national respect can you get when you haven't even won your own league?

Not to say I don't feel the same way about being excited about this team, But how is all the use of "we" and "our" not the same as tOSU fans whom are made fun of because we think they determine their self-worth by the achievements of the football team. All earnings and acheivements on the football field have been a product of the football team. Its great to be a part of this surge in success, but lets give more credit to the actual team, and less clapping for ourselves as fans of the team.

im very passionate about this so here goes... 1st off, we have every right to talk about an undefeated season because we have been relatively close before and now that the pressure is gone because Utah did it (ON A TOUGH SCHEDULE to begin the season!) so we have seen that it can be done and i dont think the BCS is all that bad 1. because the computers rate us very high compared to humans and 2. they didnt throw out Utah who "broke the BCS". I mean we are a very little school and to know that if we go undefeated that we will almost for sure have at least a decent chance of playing in a BCS bowl game... then what is so bad about that? The only part i dont like is the 8-3, 7-4 years where we dont get a bowl but that is simply because the towns cannot make money off of it b/c our fan support is so low. Ok now back to my main point. This team is DESPERATE for fan support and so is the entire MAC in general. So please do not give me "dont clap for yourself" when i am spending tons of money in gas, food, gear, etc etc to drive 5hrs to watch BG play Western Michigan and the score is 49-0 at half! Sure that was great and the team deserves a valiant applause for that, BUT i happend to be one of maybe 16,000ish to give them that. Lets realize that of course without a good team, fan support means nothing. But a team that is REALLY good, without any fan support doesnt mean that much either. I mean nothing in the world meant more to me than Bowling Green coming here to Ross-Ade and beating Purdue. But it doesnt mean much to MOST anyone else b/c no one else likes BG here. To me it wasnt an eye opening experience at all, but to everyone else it was because we have no fan support. So when someone talks about us going undefeated or in general the love for each other as BG football fans.. of course i am NOT going to give them a rough time about it not happening, b/c Wisconsin isnt really THAT good. They have a huge fan following and a great defense. So what? If we believe and truly ban together, we can be that same team with solid fan support and great defense not all that far into the future. It really bothers me that we can draw 31,000 for NIU and Gameday crew but only 16,000 for WMU and MAC game of the week! Thats only half!!! Somewhere we need to ban together and say hey that was really fun and i think we should go to ALL of the games. You know it would be great to be undefeated and i really do believe BG can go 11-0 this year, but i am still going to love BG football and those true BG fans who are left in the stands with me if we start off 0-10. Nuff said. FALCON UP!
