Omar's last season?
I'm sure some of you may be thinking this. Have to wonder if this is Omar's last year in NW OH? Especially if he has another season like this past one?

This has been talked about in a lot of other threads but I honestly don't think he'll go. I know people disagree because of the possibility of injuries, the fact that he already has 4 years and probably doesn't need another to graduate, etc. but I really have this gut feeling that no matter how well we do, he will come back in 2006.

Sorry, McMetz, but you must be smokin' soemthing if you really think that. Granted, I would love to see Omar back in 2006. But if he has his degree and is looking likely to be a first round draft pick, I would be the first to shake his hand to say thanks for what you have done here, but its time to move on. It's not like he would come back to win another national championship or anything.McMetz811 wrote:This has been talked about in a lot of other threads but I honestly don't think he'll go. I cannot see him coming back if his numbers are on par from last season. I'm not too worried about it anyway. Turner is damn good too.Warthog wrote:Sorry, McMetz, but you must be smokin' soemthing if you really think that. Granted, I would love to see Omar back in 2006. I assume that he will leave. I really hope this is not the case and we should really try to influence him on coming back 1 more, but i think we can still beat Boise and Wisc at home with Turner at the helm.. still too early to tell
4th & 13 on PU 32yd line.. 56,000 fans up on their feet screaming, i held my breath the entire play trying to make as little noise as possible.. wouldnt u know Sharon would make the biggest touchdown catch in the history of BG Football, FALCON UP!
I know people were going to disagree but that's how I feel. I can honestly say if I had my degree and had the option of a money contract in front of me for something that I've been working at my whole life but had the option of returning to play at BG one more year, I would be back here. But that's just me and my love for this placeWarthog wrote: Sorry, McMetz, but you must be smokin' soemthing if you really think that. Granted, I would love to see Omar back in 2006. Honestly though, I doubt he'll be winning the Heisman this year but I will be hoping along with the rest of you. Sure it might not be a great idea to turn down an NFL contract to come back and win a Heisman and (maybe if we do good this year) have a shot at a BCS bowl, but you never know. He came here from Florida so that tells me he likes the place. Sure not too many other schools gave him offers, but to come to BG over the other ones tells me he liked BG. I'm hoping all of that keeps him here another year. Of course this is just my opinion and probably nothing like what will really happen. Feel free to argue, but none of us really know for sure.

On Omar leaving at the end of the season....
It is a mistake to look too far ahead. Only one link of the chain of destiny can be handled at a time.

I have no doubt we could beat Wisconsin at home....beating them in Cleveland is a little different.
Roll Along!
2 months ago I thought that Omar would likely be back for his senior season. I thought he would still have major questions about his release, our offensive scheme, etc. I was also looking back at other MAC greats, and Big Ben was the only one to give up a season of eligibility to enter the draft.
That was BEFORE the 2005 NFL draft.
As happens every year the immediate post draft writeups come out about how each team is graded, then they are closely followed by a look ahead. It seems as though Omar is on everybody's radar. And he's close to the top of their radar. Suddenly nearly every writeup has him rated as a first rounder, many in the top 10, most in the top 20 at least. This is before his '05 season. If he has another year similar to last year's it will only raise his stock. Seeing as how he's getting so much press right now, if he backs it up with another year similar to last year, he's almost certainly going to be a top 15 pick in the draft.
If he truly is looking like a top 15 pick, he's almost assuredly gone. Every year you'll see one or two kids go back for their senior year when they were surefire top 15 picks, but the majority bolt. I hope he does come back, if he does the media circus for his senior year should be HUGE, but I'm not holding my breath.

Like all of you I hope Omar stays for his senior year but I have seen some very early mock drafts for players that will or might be eligible for the 2006 NFL draft. One had Omar going number 4 and another had him at number 3 overall. If that holds true after the 2005 season I can't see any way he would return for 2006. I wondered how the so-called experts viewed Omar and the numbers he put up last year. Was it simply because of the system BG plays or did they really believe he had the talent to be a top pick. With his size, mobility and intelligence along with the numbers he put up in his first year as a starter, he seems to be the whole package.
Let's enjoy 2005 and while it will be extremely difficult for Omar to match the 41/4 touchdown to interception numbers he put up last year, if he continues to improve and puts up big numbers against Wisconsin and Boise Stae, this could be a big year for all Falcon fans.
