There is one statement Coach Brandon made where I hope he is not quite correct.

He stated that with the 12 game schedule, a 6-6 record would make a team bowl eligible. I was under the impression that a team has to have a winning record. The NCAA Committee had an opportunity to change this a month or so ago but declined to do so. So the minimum record to be bowl eligible would be 7-5.

This is of course very important for the MAC. I hope we can get a definite answer.

Last year teams thay played 12 games, Hawaii and MSU it was said they had to be 7-5 to be bowl eligible, but I believe this year 6-6 will get you into a bowl. I agree I think you should have to be 7-5 but I dont think that is the case anymore.

Or any record will get you a bowl game...so long as you are Notre Dame

The last that I heard on the whole bowl eligibility issue was that it was still TBD for the 2006 seasons and beyond. Here's the excerpt from the 12-game meeting.

The Board also discussed, but did not reach a decision on how the 12-game season affects bowl eligibility. Board members did indicate their support for preserving the current legislation that defines bowl eligibility as a team with a winning record. During the 12-game seasons in 2002 and 2003, temporary legislation was passed to allow teams with a 6-6 record to be bowl-eligible, but that legislation has expired.

Well Northwestern was 6-6 when they played us in the MCB, I thought it was only 6-6 on a 12 game schedule. Last year it wasn't an issue really because there was only an 11 game season for the majority of the teams. MSU and Hawaii were exceptions. Whatever NCAA legislation set aside, if the bowl slots are as hard to fill this season as they were last year, 6-6 will have to be eligible simply to fill every bowl game.

Of all recruiting regions to put John Lovett in charge of, they gave him... Pittsburgh?

That surprised me.

But I did some Googling. I guess even Clemson and Auburn had Lovett beating the bushes up north.

That seems pretty definitive to me. I'm surprised Brandon is saying something else.

Well, I'm sure glad he been coaching for so many "yers". And this: NCAA rules will not permit more than seven of our 10 full-time coaches can be out on the road at one time so we try to mix and match,*gasp* but by and large our guys live out of a suitcase for a four-week period.

Good info. I liked him presenting the regional responsibilities of each coach. I find it interesting that Stud is responsible for the VA military schools. Is that a common position or does Stud have existing relationships in the area?

Weekday night games are awesome. It's increased the visibility of the MAC 10 fold just in the past 3 years. My dream is to have college football seven days a week during the fall and early winter. What a glorious world that would be.

It would seem that our forays into Louisiana and Texas are done for.

Having a coach with a great reputation like Lovett hitting Pittsburgh could pay some serious dividends. We've made some inroads into PA over the past few seasons

Played in the golf outing he spoke of. Raised about $55,000 for the summer program. Plus, hats off to Graduate Assistant Malone for securing the betting hole girls!

We have a presence all over the state of Florida...that's good. There is so much talent in the Sunshine State and Urbie can't possibly get them all!
