A few upgrades for the DOYT!!!!!

I had a few thoughts and tidbits and nitpicking I wanted to do so here goes.
1. With the removal of the north end zone bleachers how many seats did we approx. lose.
2. When the Sebo Center is complete, how many concrete bleach seats will we gain, will it be more than what we lost?
3. We need to finish off the backside of the scoreboard. It is too plain and too bare. Do you think they will do anything to it.
4. When the SEBO is complete the Northeast corner will be attached to the Doyt, however the Northwest corner will still be open. Here is an idea. Move the Falcon Club tent to that open space, and relocated the old torn down bleachers to the south end zone. Or they could building a perm. Falcon Club Facility within that NW corner and move the tent outside the stadium for other functions.
5. When the SEBO is complete it will house the coaches rooms freeing up space under the Doyt. What is going to be used in the old space that is free up. How about some more restrooms and built in concession stands. Takes for ever to use the restroom or to even get food. My parents wont even go down to get food because they miss too much of halftime, and sometimes beginning of the 3rd quarter.
6. What is going to happen with the parking lots North of the stadium now? Will it be relocated or will it just not be in existance anymore?
7. This is my best idea? How about installing the 25 sec clock to the SEBO building and also attaching a small scoreboard to the SEBO building, on the small strip of Metal/Steel between the second and third stories of the building.

1. With the removal of the north end zone bleachers how many seats did we approx. lose.
An earlier thread said around 5000 seats came down with the north bleachers but I have not been able to confirm that because the ticket office doesn't know/won't release that information yet.
2. When the Sebo Center is complete, how many concrete bleach seats will we gain, will it be more than what we lost?
I do not think there will be 5000 seats in the new seating. From the drawings it does not look to be higher than the old ones. And as I understood it, those seats were to be used just for the Falcon Marching Band unless it is a full house.
3. We need to finish off the backside of the scoreboard. It is too plain and too bare. Do you think they will do anything to it.
I totally agree with this. I think a second video board purchased by the University to advertise events all over campus is more than appropriate for that location. I can only hope that is in future plans not disclosed yet.
4. When the SEBO is complete the Northeast corner will be attached to the Doyt, however the Northwest corner will still be open. Here is an idea. Move the Falcon Club tent to that open space, and relocated the old torn down bleachers to the south end zone. Or they could building a perm. This I totally disagree with. I think that area is left open because that is where the marching band enters the stadium. It looks like there will be some trees planted there and this is all. Anywaym it is my hope that a permanent Falcon Club area will be build into the new convocation center in the south endzone area along with the bookstore.
I still believe one of the reasons for moving so many offices into the SEBO center is to allow for the renovation/rebuilding of the West stands. If/when that happens then the restroom situation will get better because of new codes. And I would think concessions would get a better home as well. We do have to remember that the NorthWest area of the stadium will still have the locker room space for the team.
6. What is going to happen with the parking lots North of the stadium now? Will it be relocated or will it just not be in existance anymore?
This lot still exists in the drawings of the project. The only change is the road to get to the oval surrounding the stadium. And it will remain there because that is where the high donors in the Falcon Club park, and we all know how much we need to cater to money right now. Anyway there is only so much grass to park on and kill each season. (that was for you Clever)
7. This is my best idea? How about installing the 25 sec clock to the SEBO building and also attaching a small scoreboard to the SEBO building, on the small strip of Metal/Steel between the second and third stories of the building.
I think the 25 second clock and a second score board on the North side of the stadium is a great idea. It would make the stadium look a little more professional in my opinion.

I have always thought, and now that the Falcon club tent is in the south endzone, that the band should enter through the south endzone, but that is my opinion.
As far as a second video board. I think BG got robbed and over-paid for that board. I just attended the mudhens game last night, and anyone seen their new baord. I think it is 20x40ft, yes that is right, 20x40ft, and it is the same price BG paid for their small board. Not sure where you would put a second video board though.

I have heard that they have not put anything behind the scoreboard because of the way it is constructed. Something to do with possible maintenance and the fact that there is a walkway behind it. Hopefully they can figure out a way to get something behind there, I too think it is too bare.
I would like to see a billboard facing I-75, marketing the team and possibly putting the schedule on there. I think the schedule needs to be put out near the stadium for onlookers to see as they drive by. You never know, some guy could see it and be like..."yeah, hun. Since the family has no plans for this Saturday why don't we bring everyone here to the stadium to watch BG play Ohio?" I think those extra people that need to be reminded all of the time would improve the attendance a little.

It the band entered from the south they would have to move up the sidelines to the north because that is where pre-game starts. And while I do agree the video board we have now is WAY to small it is a HUGE imporvement over what we had. Perhaps we buy a larger main board and hang the current one on the back. I am sure you could use the same support structure.

My wish-list:
Brick facades encasing the cement pillars of the stadium, with the upper half to two thirds in light stone/polished cement. Also, either polished cement or stone façade work along the top and sides of the stadium. This would give the entire stadium a fresh and refined look. Plus it would mesh the stadium into the surrounding buildings and projects.
Second story lounge boxes on the west side, with semi-enclosed box seats under them where the current walk-way is. Extend those from the ends of the stadium. Or some concession stands at the top under the new lounge boxes. This would provide substantial donor money for the rights to the seating. The semi-enclosed box seats would provide something of a bridge in the pricing structure, but would still command top dollar. If you put some concession stands at each corner, accessible either to the box seats or GA people, you would help boost sales. Though they would get swamped to some extent.
Of course, lounge boxes along the entire top of the west side.
On a semi-related note…
Concession stands at the north and south ends of the stadium, closer to the fans. Not as a replacement, but perhaps featuring premium food stuffs from money-paying venders.
TV monitors under the main stadium to allow fans to follow the action in all weather and during those food-runs.
Sponsored brick and polished cement benches along the outer fence-line.
Brick walk-ways within the fence-line or sculpted cement surfaces with brick highlights. A possible fund-raising method that could extend for years.
A brick fence-line, with shrubs along the outside or inside edge. This would give a more organic and inviting look to the entire complex, and mesh better with Sebo.
Semi-gothic pillars along the fence-line, or with the stadium, highlighting championship teams, players, coaches, and noted figures in BGSU football history.
A semi-permanent outside display highlighting BGSU athletic history, which would be open for people to walk around.
A “wishing well” on the east and west walk-ways out of the stadium. Something decorative by simple, where folks could just toss loose change and money into it. The funds would go to whatever, but it would be a nice touch.
Somebody find the ATO bell and for gods sake mount it someplace.
Statues of Doyt Perry in one of those classic coach poses, at a point of fairly high-profile. What these things tend to be made of now-a-days I’m not sure. Others of duly noted figures in BGSU athletic or football history would be nice. I’m sure our own fine arts department is fully able to do something like this, and it would be cheaper that way, while highlighting more than one university department. Besides, you can always sell the sponsorship rights.
A illuminated backside for the score board, including a text scroll or something to promote things.
A secondary scoreboard with current stats and out of town games.
Localized broadcast of the home radio network since despite all the malarkey about how its easy to pick-up 1230 in BG, you can’t pick it up with a battery of radio telescopes.
Some kind of public access elevator use for those with seats up higher in the stadium. Doesn’t have to be for everybody, but the gesture would be appreciated by some.
Better accommodations for the tent city. More purpose-installed electrical outlets. Paved tent entrances or pads.
Fixed public rest-room areas on the edge of tent city. Sure they’ll only be clean for the first twenty minutes of gameday, but it’s the thought that counts.
Allow for alumni chapters and other sponsors to build fixed pavilions for pre-game events, though allow them to be used by whomever when the sponsor doesn’t have a given level of presence there. Let theses things line the walk-way to the stadium and allow for grills and such.
Make the seating numbers in the visitors section closer together. Shhhhh, don’t tell anybody. And replace the benches with something more narrow, installed with a slight slant backward.
Make people from out of town park closer to the exits, so they can get home sooner and then allow the rest of us to get out sooner.
Pave and landscape the football parking as per the master plan, and do more to make that initial view of campus appealing to visitors and I-75 commuters.
Lesser ideas:
Some kind of robot that will beat the lazy-ass TV camera people and sports reporters until the drag their sad butts up the stadium sides and film high-lights from the media booths or facilities. I’m sorry people, I know you work in a lower-70-something market, which is well on its way to 80 and below, but put some effort out. These sub-high-school highlights don’t cut it. The camera work is lousy, the focus is so tight you can’t see what the heck is going on, and you get absolutely zero sense for how the action played out. Transcend the fact you work in TOLEDO and try to look like you want to work in a bigger town.
I giant county-fair-like slide and three hundred burlap bags, which the marching band would use to enter the stadium. (OK, maybe not.)
A giant air-cannon to shoot Freddie and Frieda over the stadium sides into the field for the opening

No, but if you post on the Toledo board, I'm sure there are some football players from there that can sell you something that will take care of that pain!

Very funny!!! I would not do anything like that, unless of course the pain medication would be coming from Brucie!!! Could use it against him and get him into a little trouble. Not a bad idea though, I am sure Bruce could help me out, after all, he called my brother last week. Bruce was trying to sell my brother and his wife season tickets to the 2005 season, my brother let him go through his whole speech and then my brother told him that he was a season ticket holder at BG. My brother thought for sure he would hang up, but he didn't. Instead he tried to insist he give the Rockets a try this year as he said the Rockets were the team to beat and will have an outstanding year. Then my brother told him, well you don't have Omar Jacobs, and BG is the team to beat, and then Brucie finally hung up. I thought it was funny when my brother told me that.

If we reach the point of needing more seats and want to do it inexpensively, I wonder if it would be wise to just add one or two more sections along the sideline.
Where the stands leave off at the goal line? Just add a section or two on each side to start curving around the corner of the end zone.
Just a thought. It would be cheaper -- and less intense -- than either building a whole bowl or adding a deck.
I think a lot of the landscaping / new gates / etc. is more important. But if we need more seating, maybe that's another way to do it.

If I thought the money could be had, I'd say a vast and full revamp of DLPS would be a big plus. I think a sound game-plan that spans 10 years will do in its place.
I think we have to balance major changes to facilities. The convo center, or whatever solution they come up with needs to be a priority. A major refit to the ice arena is also long overdue. Yet football is the engine that is helping the athletic budget overall. You don’t want to waste opportunities which a winning program gives you. Ideally you re-invest in the program so that in a down period you can rebound quicker, and otherwise still keep people coming in the gates.
I trust they’ll strike a fair and creative balance. This isn’t Toledo for example where they’ll inevitably screw-up a good situation somehow.

isn't a 25 second clock supposed to be down there somewhere by rule, anyway? a scoreboard would be a plus, but I think the play clock is required.

There is a 25 second play clock there, however, it is off to the NE corner. I think it would just look more professional and a better look if it was attached to the building rather than on a steel rod put in the ground
