I like the quote that we are being aggressive as far as getting big ten teams away from their houses. What better way to gain a recruiting foothold in michigan than to beat Michigan state in detroit?

If we can get some big ten teams into the doyt in a 2-1 deal. That would be a fantastic achievement for Krebs and the rest of the department.

You are right, that would be a huge achievement. Also, finding 1-1 with I-a teams so we can avoid playing I-AA teams....but a Big 10 team in the Doyt would be huge.

i think we could easily get some big ten teams in the doyt, but options are limited.

i still think there is no way to get osu and uM. they travel too many and we are losing seats for a while atleast wile they build the SEBO...

MSU we could prolly get they havent been very good lately..i dont think they have the loayal support of OSU or UM.

Indiana easily, N'Western easily along with illinois, they dont really have the football traditions as the big10 powerhouses do so they shouldnt think they are too good to come to our town.

This has little to do with "being too good to come to our town" and everything to do with a pragmatic assessment of reality. Why should any of these schools come to The Doyt? What could they possibly gain? A payday? Hardly. If they want money, they schedule another home game. Prestige? Are you kidding? Beat a MAC team and everyone says, "Of course they beat a MAC team, the Big 10 should always beat the MAC" (no flames, please, I'm not supporting that notion, merely pointing out that it is the prevailing opinion of many casual fans of college football). Lose and you're the butt of jokes for weeks to come.

The institution of the 12-game schedule may help here, but that remains to be seen.

indiana doesnt make any money in any game. they prolly pay more than they make for home games by the time they pay for electric, employee/vendors, ushers, ticket office people, etc..

and i think they should come here..everyone thinks those teams i listed, indiana, illinois, northwester...people look at them as more of a bye week than they do some MAC teams. they should be looking to make names for themselves. what did we do to get mizzou here and why couldnt we offer that to indiana or illinois or northwestern. Mizzou is a bigger football school than those three combined

Krebs has publicly stated that he's done everything short of blackmail to get BCS teams to the Doyt and they aren't interested. I have to believe that he's being honest.

Granted, but the whole 12th game scenario has put a new wrinkle in scheduling. It may be the opportunity BG has been searching for to get a a few lower-tier BCS teams to come to the Doyt.

My opinion is that people still remember what BG did to Mizzou at the Doyt and don't want any part of it.

What did we do to get Mizzou to come to the Doyt? We prodcued Larry Smith, that's what.

Illinois has a stronger tradition than you give them credit for. Northwestern can draw some pretty good crowds when considering their record. Indiana would be the only possible thing here, but I'd rather get a 1 for 1 with a "mid major" than deal with Indiana.

I guess I don't get why the Big11 schools won't travel to the Doyt, when Iowa came to Yager. and Minnesota is scheduled to come in 2010. Has a Big 10 team ever been to the Doyt? It is a nice stadium, and will be better once the SEBO is done. I guess, I can see why UM or OSU wouldn't come to BG, but Indiana, Illinois or NW'ern wouldn't. Heck Purdue could too! I think they will. Or if not, then beat them at their place like you have in the past.

A Big Ten team has never been to the Doyt.

I'm not entirely sure what the issue is. I suspect part of it is that Bowling Green is not willing to offer the guarantees that Miami or Toledo have offered.

The fact that Indiana will open at Central Michigan and that Big Ten teams are scheduled to play at Ohio doesn't seem to support my theory.

But I'm trying. And I trust Krebs is, too.

Why would a fiscally responsible Wisconsin athletic director, allow Wisconsin to play in front of, to be generous, 40,000 at a MAC venue, when the FB team can earn 85,000 X $50 (or more average ticket price) at home?

Is that fair to the MAC?

Of course not.

My best suggestion for long term competitiveness in college football is a 16 or or even 24 team division 1A playoff system which would (obviously) include the non-BCS conferences.

Bowls and the BCS schools are afraid that would reduce their revenue and importance.

I think, if properly planned and run, such a system would actually increase revenues to BCS schools while also making non-BCS schools more competative in football. The bowls could stay involved.

I like the idea of greater, not less, competition in college football. I love the sport and want to see it prosper. I'd hate to see schools like EMU, CMU, Buffalo, etc. relegated to division 1AA. Instead, I'd rather see them going toe to toe with major conference schools.

Of course, I'll still be cheering for UW to beat BGSU come September.
