I just read on rivals.com that we picked up a commitment from a TE from Crystal Lake IL by the name of Nick Rieke. He was a one of our campers last month and he had come in as a Qb but we moved him to TE and liked what we saw and gave him the offer. He 6'4 220 and picked us over intrest from NIU, MSU, WMU and Wisconsin

BG Recruits
I agree with what you notice. We do get a lot more recruits these days that seem to say they chose BG over some pretty good schools as opposed to a few other MAC schools and I-AA schools. I think it is a testament to what Urban Meyer did for the program. As much as I still dislike the guy for openly lying to us as fans and turning his back on us a week later, I will be the first to admit that he injected something into our program that brought it back and put us on the radar. Gregg Brandon has done a great job carrying that momentum over and not letting anything slip off.

Anyone else notice that MAC recruits used to look like "he picked us over 2-3 other MAC teams and a I-AA school" and now we get more and more Big Ten teams on the bridesmaids list of each recruit?
First off, I totally agree with what you say here and am excited that we can now compete with the perceived big boys. But a big caveat for me is that these kids could say that anybody showed interest. This kid could've said Wisconsin and MSU to pump himself up (not saying he did). I'm just saying these developments call for tempered enthusiasm. I don't really care who showed alleged interest in these youngins. All I care about is how they look after we coach em up for a year. Hopefully we're gettin more good ones.

i think we are overdue to have a great recruiting class, i mean look at the success we've been having recently and it hasnt exactly been translating into top recruiting classes even in the MAC, i'd like to see us get a big time WR in here, and also someone at any position that is just really fast..
4th & 13 on PU 32yd line.. 56,000 fans up on their feet screaming, i held my breath the entire play trying to make as little noise as possible.. wouldnt u know Sharon would make the biggest touchdown catch in the history of BG Football, FALCON UP!
For whatever it's worth, Rieke is listed on the Rivals Recruiting Database as a TE prospect for both Wisconsin and Michigan St.
I find it very interesting that he is playing as a QB in high school but is being recruited as a TE in college. I have a feeling that unlike some of our recruits from last year who played at TE in high school but will likely change positions at BG, Rieke will play TE at BG.
I think this is another indication that Coach Brandon is planning to have our TE play a much more significant role in our offensive scheme as a receiver, maybe lining up in the backfield, etc. I'm hoping we'll see this in the upcoming season with Ruiz.
I am impressed also with how we are recruiting more players who have a lot of versatility, e.g Corey Partridge, Pete Winovich, and Rieke.
I'm betting we'll see Partridge run reverses, throw option passes, run back punts or kickoffs, etc.
I'm wondering who will be the holder this year for field goals--Turner? Partridge? Will we see some fakes off our our field goal sets?

Has anyone else heard or read any rumors about other recruits? I was on rivals.com and apparently we aren't in the running for too many of the Ohio Top 50. Like I wrote in another thread, we really need to improve in this area. Anyone seen Peris Edwards play? According to scout and rivals, he is considering BG.

Well, according to Scout, at this point it is between us and that Turd up north. He also has offers from other MAC schools and Cincy.BGSU-Ph.D. wrote:Has anyone else heard or read any rumors about other recruits? The latest dope on insiders is that Edwards has three favorites. BG, Cincy and Miami of Ohio. He has yet to visit Cincy or Miami. He camped here at BG. He did speak highly of the players here and the program and seems to like the idea of playing close to home.
On a personal note, my wife's goddaughter goes to Rogers and knows Edwards. She's agreed to put in a good word for us

Thanks. I was getting my info. from the free listing under his name which lists him as having interest in BG and Turd, but no interest in Cincy, Miami U., etc.Flipper wrote:The latest dope on insiders is that Edwards has three favorites.
