My daughter will attending BGSU in the fall as a freshman. I am ready to become a BG football fan.

I am already a University of Michigan football fan (because of my father) and a UCONN football and basketball fan (because of my wife and son.)

I can't wait to come to a game. It will probably be only one as we live near Philadelphia.

I am used to the colors as the local high school's colors are Orange and Brown.

Well, thanks for the site. I will be here alot over the next 4 years or so.

I've been a Michigan fan for longer than a fan of any other college team.

We came out to visit BG on UM/OSU football weekend. After watching the game we drove up to Ann Arbor for dinner.

But I am on board for Falcon football now. And yes, I am sure I will be a fan for more than four years.

I just could not get my daughter to do marching band. Darn!...Oh well, I am sure she will have a blast.

Hi Forbes. Glad you are here. As a BG alum, I can only tell you to keep very close tabs on your daughter. Not that there's anything you can do from Philly, but BG is a very fun, wild place. It was so fun in fact, that I don't think my husband would EVER let my daughter attend after hearing my college stories. I think there's a deal where kids of alums who live out of state can still get in-state tuition, but he has sworn never to let that happen.

But then again, maybe your daughter is smarter than I was when I was 18. Talk to you soon!

You better hook up with 1987alum. He also lives in Philly and makes it to one game at the Doyt every year (and one Bowl game

). Maybe you guys could team up and make two trips to BG!

I am not sure one could find a place that would be less "wild" in this day and age. At least at a worthwhile school.

My daughter has had the benefit of watching my son go to UConn for three years. She has gone and visited. I trust her, not that I think she will not party. But she knows that she has to do what she needs to do to do what she wants to do. That is the motto.

If need be we can get there by plane pretty quickly. But I doubt there will be a problem.

Of course she is in the school of leisure studies....hmmmmmmm.

Good attitude to have. And even if she parties, all hope is not lost. Even I turned out okay.

It's not hard to unleard the Michigan thing. It will always have a little part but you will learn to put BG first! I've done the same

As for your daughter, I don't think it's too late to sign her up for marching band. I marched for 4 years here and it's a blast! The minute you get here, you have 200+ friends and I don't know anything else you can join here on campus that works that way! Don't force the issue, but try to convince her some more

Anyways, welcome to the boards and hopefully we will see you at a game or even the tailgates!

1987Alum,

Perkiomen Valley in Collegeville, PA

Metz,

I convinced my son to march at UConn. He had a blast. He also played in the pep band for the women's B-ball team and got to go to New Orleans and play for the championship. He plays trumpet.

My daughter was in the drumline. She is actually a piano player and singer. She not a natural drummer. I think four years in high school in a competition band was good enough for her. I tried but don't want to put too much pressure on her.

Thanks, being in the band myself, I know about the benefits.

As for Michigan all i can say is...GO BLUE!

I played trumpet in the marching band for 4 years here will continue playing it for men's bball, women's bball and hockey games for my 5th year this year! The trips we take are incredible and something I probably wouldn't have the money to do on my own! So far I've got to march at the Cleveland Browns stadium, stand on the sidelines at the Bengal's stadium (stupid injuries), march at the Motor City and GMAC bowls, and travel to Seattle for the women's NCAA bball tournament! I might have gone to the bowl games as a fan, but there is no way any of the other things would have happened!

And yes, GO BLUE...after ORANGE AND BROWN!!

Forbes: I used to work at The Mercury in nearby Pottstown. (Piano is my wife's principle instrument, though she does more singing these days, piano lessons aside).

How did your daughter arrive at choosing BG? Is she looking at a music-related major?
