SEBO Construction set for this fall
SEBO Construction set for this fall
Can't believe no one posted this yet. There was an article in the Sentinel yesterday about construction of athletic facilities at the University. I thought someone would have posted the details by now. I can't remember all of it (I'll check it out tonight again) but here goes:
- Construction on the SEBO Student Athlete Center will begin this fall. Still way short on funds. Only 4.5 mil of the expected 7.5 mil needed has been raised. Currently working with the architects on the final drawings.
- Study of Anderson Arena to be completed in August. If I read it right, it sounded like there are really two options. One is renovate AA adding seats and suites of some kind, or building a new facility.
- Building a locker room between the baseball and softball fields.
- Whitaker track will be completely re-done.
- Mentioned something about the Keefe Tennins Courts, but I don't remember what that was.
- Something about the Golf Course and the Ice Arena being managed by someone else so they don't fall under the University responsibilty to maintain. Didn't quite understand it.

I wish they would do a better job on the Athletics website highlighting the need for donations.

Probably something to do with filling in the valleys and maybe resurfacing it. Or maybe burning them down and putting them somewhere elseWarthog wrote:- Mentioned something about the Keefe Tennins Courts, but I don't remember what that was.
Why are you grrring that? Maybe I missed something...hammb wrote:Warthog wrote: - Building a locker room between the baseball and softball fields.

I believe it was because Hammb was going to lose his putting green to the locker room or something like that.Metz wrote:Why are you grrring that? Maybe I missed something...hammb wrote:Warthog wrote: - Building a locker room between the baseball and softball fields.

Yes, I really like the practice facility that is set up in that current area. In fact, I'd be willing to pay for it. There is no other place around here where you can practice your short game as much as you can there. You can hit iron shots ranging from about 170 yards on down to as short as you want. Unlike a driving range you can also then follow your shots and finish them out like you would if you were playing the ball.UK Peregrine wrote:I believe it was because Hammb was going to lose his putting green to the locker room or something like that.Metz wrote:Why are you grrring that? Its the best place around, IMO, for practicing irons, putting, and chipping. The fact that it has always been free is a bonus.
I will definitely miss that area.

Having never used those, I didn't think about it. As a golfer though, I can definitely understand!! Maybe they will put it where the current restrooms are and more towards the softball diamond. Then both greens would stay in tacthammb wrote:Yes, I really like the practice facility that is set up in that current area. In fact, I'd be willing to pay for it. I got the feeling, from the article, that they aren't exactly looking for the t ypes of donations you fish from websites. . .BGSU-Ph.D. wrote:- Construction on the SEBO Student Athlete Center will begin this fall. Ball State included in every ticket price this year a building fund surcharge, which will go towards improvements in all Ball State University athletic facilities. I'm not sure if BG did or does do this, but perhaps BG should have considered adding a small fee to tickets to help raise a little of the funds needed for the Sebo.

True, but I think the braintrust is thinking why extend too much effort nickle and diming people for $75 bucks here and $150 there. My hope is that they are working on people who can make five digit donations on up. . .

Ticket prices *did* go up this year, and as much complaining as went down about the extra $10 for UT tickets, if we can get 5-10K UT fans to help pay to improve our facilities, I'm all about it. I forget what the tickets were in '03 for the UT game, but just that extra $10 is likely more than a quarter million dollars toward that goal. The rest of the season, the extra $3 or so over last year likely pushes that closer to a half million just off ticket sales. Not eliminating the difference, but a substantial chunk.UK Peregrine wrote:Ball State included in every ticket price this year a building fund surcharge, which will go towards improvements in all Ball State University athletic facilities.
