Omars campaign..a thought by Bowden

Terry Bowden was just on the radio and made a great point about DeAngelo Williams heisman race. He said that DeAngelo will never win the heisman at such a small university and that they know that at Memphis. The reason they are making the effort and having a heisman campaign is to sell the University as a whole to potential recruits. To say you can be in the heisman race here. We need to be doing this at BGSU for one Omar Jacobs. We shouldnt wait until week 3.

i agree, and i certainly think a lot of people know who Omar is... if a little school like BG or Memph goes undefeated... and no one else in the nation does... i think you will see your 1st "small school" player to win the Heisman in recent years

So who's going to start the website? We as fans can promote, too...

I know absolutely nothing about coding, but I'll be glad to pitch in a few bucks to pay for bandwith. I've already got an "Omar Jacobs 4 Heisman" group on Facebook I started.

i know for a fact that gregg brandon will not let the marketing department start an official "omar for heisman" campaign. he doesn't want the focus of the team's marketing to be on one player.

it's going to be up to omar to market himself on the field and us as fans to take up a grassroots effort for him to get any exposure for the heisman.

i would be happy to make additions to any website. And throw in money too. i have a journalism background and could write up a comparison article of Jacobs to Leinart and other contenders easy enough. Especially if the patriarch of this website would be willing to edit it. I'd be happy to help track weekly progress as well. A top ten contenders list with updates on how everyone did that week would be nice to have......Something like NCAA's

I think who ever did the Josh Harris page would be perfect for this.

Matt Leinart
Omar Jacobs
Vince Young
Adrian Peterson
Reggie Bush
DeAngelo Williams
Teddy Ginn

It only costs $9/yr to get a domain name...hosting services are what kill you in costs.

If someone set all that up, I know a few people on this site that know web design :D

Well I also suggest EVERYONE that has a webpage or webspace at least put a link or somekind of a blurb on their page. I think I might even use my entire personal webspace and dedicate it to this....if I have time.

Beyond that. Join some more boards, probably pro football boards and use a signature like BGDrews that is a great way of getting Omar's name out there. Of course don't troll, but most sites have a section for other sports or a free for all section. Post a thread about college football there.

Just some thoughts on how we can spread the word as fans.

$9?!?!? You're getting robbed! *laugh*

And the key to web design is good Google-related templates.

That's better.

The place I have a couple of my sites hosted by gives free domain registration, but the $20 they charge for "set-up" takes them out of the running for future domains, I think. Too bad, too, because they work really well, and are increasing storage space daily, it seems.

I have reserved www.OmarJacobsForHeisman.com, have Omar Jacobs For Heisman reserved under Blogger, have a OmarJacobsforHeisman sub-domain setup under my website, will be setting up message boards for the sub-domain, and will gladly welcome and duly credit as much help as anybody wishes to give in promoting Omar from a grass-roots perspective. I also reserved www.FalconHeismans.com to host something of a history of any past vote-getters, or future players that start to draw attention. IE, if Pope gets more attention than expected, or a future player starts out the same way as Omar.

At present my FalconGames blog is fourth or fifth under Google when searching BGSU sports. I will be using www.FalconGames.net and www.MACsportsFans.com to shunt attention towards the Omar site as well. I’ve got a Google Group setup for email lists and information distribution, plus a separate list for coordinating the production of the site.

That said, I’m lousy as stats and numbers, and know I will not have time to do everything on the site. We’ve had somebody create a mock-up of a Omar site in flash. We have somebody wise in developing PHPboard templates and such. We have several people good with banners, graphics, etc. And we have people good with stats and write-ups.

If there are parties that want to sign onto the effort, I’ll put whomever PMs my account onto an email list and we can hash out the details. If you do contact me, make sure to have a good email address that you will get things regularly over the course of a day.
