Jim Tressel Takes A Swipe At The MAC

Whether the swipe is intentional or not, this is a direct quote from his news conference yesterday, talking about Marshall:

"They've always had vision and goals. They wanted to move into the next level so they're moving on to Conference USA."

Hey, Tressel, next time you blow out a team from the MAC, it'll be the first time. Shut your cake hole.

edit: OSU won 51-17 over Kent State in '02. Just for the record. But I stand by the sentiment...C-USA is in no way the next level.

Conference USA bites, and it is about to bite worse.

But, in fairness  to Ohio State, they did hammer Toledo 49-0 back in '98.

They did. I actually didn't know who to root against that day.

But that was the Cooper Era - I was mostly talking about the Tressel Buckeyes' struggles with Ohio schools.

You don't root for anyone. Just turn off your TV and hope you never hear anything about it.

Two words: Blimp crash.

I was rooting for a blimp crash.

I will do no such thing!

(Its the dinner hour, a time to let Tommy alone to reflect. Reflect on which to eat first, the turkey or the tablecloth.)

FYI, Toledo got beat so bad that day that *I* even caught a pass! (No, seriously, I did! But my feet were about 5 feet out of bounds.)

Beat me to it.... although, I was hoping for several blimp crashes, just to make sure it was done right.

Well Tressel will be in trouble if two things happen. First, his teams continue to be devoid of any apparent offensive performance, and secondly and more importantly, if Lloyd Carr has him figured out and Michigan begins to regularly whup them.

I'm all for either of those or especially both of those to happen. I can't stand him in a University of Miami (FL) kind of way.

For the first time in my life...I'm pulling for a Marshall win.

Oh note me...Because that will just perpetuate the "Marshall beat THE OSU, and they have decided to 'step-up' their program and move to C-USA." ::puke::

Still could be good...

Just think, if Marshall beats OSU and then we beat Marshall, that makes BG the real winner in that equation.

meh, let them have their cake. They just lost at home to Troy State (who ESPN.com is in love with now) Beating a 'down' osu team will just cancel out that loss. I'd rather have another MAC win over the BCS, and another osu loss to a mid-major team....or any team really. There are very few things I dislike more than osu having success at anything.

Hell no. I'm hoping the Bucks hit triple digits.

MAC teams have been trying to beat the Bucks for 12 years -- imagine the shame if Marshall finally does it.

(They won't. The Bucks are gonna hammer 'em).

like it or not...I still consider Marshall a part of the MAC. I'm sick of Ohio State fans talking about how great their team is and how superior they are to MAC opponents. Anyone who went to the BG-OSU games in 1997 and in 2003 will know what I'm talking about. Anyone who read the OSU press conference quotes following the 2003 BG-OSU game will back me up. We almost beat them in their own house and they never gave us a ounce of credit. We played them better than half of the BIG 10 did! It made me ill. Even when we pummeled Liberty last season...our players gave credit to the Liberty squad for playing a clean game and fighting to the buzzer.

I can't stand Marshall, but I'd chalk this up as a MAC win more than anything. When we beat Purdue, every analyst on ESPN said "This is a great win for the MAC". You are going to see a pissed off Marshall team on Saturday that did not like losing to Troy State. It's about time that a mid-major ripped this team a new one on their own turf. I don't care if it's Marshall, Lousiana Monroe, or Bowling Green. Somebody just beat these guys. I'm ALWAYS going to support the MAC team when they play their out-of-conference games.
