Post by Germainfitch1 »

The Big 12 commisioner is trying to get the temas int he big 12 to stop scheduling cupcakes. The MAC should jump all over this!

If you were the Big 12 commissioner, how would you define cupcakes? Some arrogant people believe that all MAC teams are cupcakes. I'm wondering if that is part of his thinking.

I'll tell you this...

Miami already IS all over it. Brad Bates has been working with the Big 12 over the summer to work out a home and home or 2-1(I hope) for Miami.

I see Miami possibly hosting Iowa State(I don't mind, I wanna beat them BAD after the Indy Bowl), Mizzou, Colorado, Texas Tech, maybe A&M....

I'd like to see BG schedule a Big 12 team or two.

The article is referring to 1-AA as cupcakes, so GF is right, the mac should try to jump on this, especially since it is the lower Big 12 teams that are scheduling 1-AA (Texas Tech is scheduling 2).

Here's where the rubber meets the road, however ...
"In the BCS system that we are in, you cannot afford to play every non-conference game against a BCS team," UT athletic director DeLoss Dodds said. "It just is not practical.

"If you want to play for a national championship, you want a high BCS rating. And as strong as the Big 12 is, we know we are going to have five tough South games and three tough North games every year. Then if we load up and play four more or three more tough games, you are not going to have the numbers that you need."

Dennis Franchione - what a jack-ass. He actually defends playing Texas State.

I'd love for Paul Krebs to get on the phone and call A&M and tell them we're ready to play. We'll give'em that 12th game.

You know, Transfer, you're right. And to Gfitch's point, Krebs (and probably even Chryst, to a certain degree), should be on the phone(s) as we speak. Even though we'd probably never get a home game out of it ...

Texas Tech in the doyt would be a sweet game. There might be 1,000 passing yards in that one.

Maybe someone should ask missouri if they wanna come back...

Have y'all seen who is in the Big 12????

http://www.big12sports.com/

Sorry, but the fact that they have to play each other is bad enough. If they put in a little fluff, I don't blame them. My H's school is in Big 12 South (yes, I know they're 6/6). The other 5 are all top 25 teams, Texas, A&M, Oklahoma, Tech & arguably OSU. Don't blame them a bit!!! And if Baylor plays at BG, you can guarantee the Botox family will be there!

Yeah, I found out who was in it by looking at last year's standings:

Even with the "they beat up on everyone else" argument, I see two teams there that scare me. And one of them we looked in the eye pretty damn well last year on their own turf.

Knowing what type of success BG has had against the middle to bottom tier of the Big12 (Mizzu and Kansas), I just don't see teams other than Oklahoma and Texas wanting to take the risk of getting blown out by BG. The Big 12 already has a reputation of being a little soft at the bottom, especially the North division, and getting dominated by a BG would help to reinforce than image.

UK: Exactly. Top tier teams (Oklahoma, Texas) may invite us down, but Mizzou & Kansas probably aren't in a hurry to schedule us again. That being said, it could be a great opportunity for some middle-to-lower tier MAC schools to add some nice OOC games.

Still, I have to imagine that Krebs will try to take advantage of this opportunity.

The Big 12 isn't better than the ACC, Big 10, or SEC. Regardless, 1-A should avoid playing 1-AA schools.

Disagree on ACC & Big 10. JMO though.
