potential good news

Post by Schadenfreude »

A little birdie tells me that we may soon have good news when it comes to the radio network.

That's all I can say for now. But if things work out, it shouldn't be too long before we all know more.

Let me guess: A station in Columbus is being added?

Yeah the games are going to be played on Sirius. That's part of the reason why I bought one.

Weren't there hoops games on Sirius last year? Though it was much more of a hit-or-miss type thing. Like a "MAC Game of the Week". If there's an announcement about BG's network going all out on Sirius, I know I'm asking for as a Labor Day present!

What kind of equipment do you need for Sirius and how much does it cost? Also, do you need a subscription or something? I've never really looked into this because no radio station every plays any of the music I listen to, and I listen to quite a bit.

Sirius and XM require a basic receiver, then a monthly subscription. You can find deals on the receivers (and they have different kinds for home, car, etc, some are semi-interchangeable) if you keep an eye out, but I think they're normally in the $100 range, then maybe $10-$15 a month after that. A friend of mine has one and swears by it. You can listen to commercial-free everything, from Rock to Rap to Country to Standup Comedy to Sports and whatever else. Both Sirius and XM have (or used to have) three day trials on their websites where you could listen around and see what kinds of "stations" each has to offer. Unfortunately, I don't think it works for the sports stations, so you can't sign up for a trial on the weekend just to get the game! Sirius has the NFL contract, too, so you can listen to the home or away announcer of any NFL game.

I HIGHLY doubt that BG's radio network is getting a station on Satellite. I would not say that more affiliates isn't possible though.

It wouldn't be their own station. It would be a station for that particular game day. Once our game is over another game comes on to that same station.
