Another Cole Magner blurb

From the Atlanta Journal Constitution:

Receiver surprises

With one roster spot at wide receiver possibly available, Kerry Johnson, Kendrick Mosley, Romby Bryant, Derrick Tinsley and Brian Bratton have made some attention-grabbing plays. But rookie free agent Cole Magner's consistency has piqued the interest of the coaching staff. The flypaper-handed Bowling Green product not only catches just about everything thrown his way, he's far more athletic than initially thought, Mora said.

Ugh. The Falcons signed a WR earlier this week (did this get noted? I was on a mini-sabbatical Thurs/Fri)

Don't remember the name, but some guy with Arena League and NFL training camp experience, though I don't think he's been on an NFL roster.

Yes, that is the Romby Bryant mentioned in Grant's original post.

I went back and looked it up, its Will Pettis. There are ALOT of people fighting for a look at WR. Cole looks like he's making a name for himself, but "Sunshine" needs to shine even brighter (or at least keep shining brightly) to stand above the group.

Link to the Pettis signing, third or fourth bullet point:

Okay...I read your post to fast as was thinking the guy was an NFL europe guy which Bryant is. FWIW, ourlads has Pettis rated in the same slot as Cole on the depth chart. The best sign for Cole though is that he is getting looks at returning kicks which the other guys are not!!

All is not lost

Looking at the stats from tonight's preseason game against the defensive powerhouse ravens, here is Cole's stat line

2 receptions for 34 yards (2nd on the team) and a long of 23

also, here's the stat line on returns for the falcons. I think we may have found an opening

PUNT RETURNS
NO AVG TD LG
B. Bratton 1 4.0 0 4
C. Magner 2 21.5 0 22
K. Mosley 1 0.0 0 0

Actually,
I think that was a pic from one of his 1st years at BG..... what, maybe 18 or 19 at the oldest? And he DOES look like a young kid....of course, he's all of 22 or so, so he's ready for Sr. Citizen status I guess.

I just did a search for "magner" on their forum and it came back with 173 hits. Looks like a lot of people are talking about him. However, there are some morons who seem to think we has a mullet because his hair comes out the back of his helmet. First off, you can't tell if someone has a mullet or not with a helmet because you can't see how long the front of their hair. Mullet is business up top and party in the back....Magner must be all party. lol Hopefully he makes the "Falcons" roster party for 2005.

Sorry this is a repost. Too many Magner threads!!

From atlantafalcons.com

Wide receiver Cole Magner on his play on offense and special teams:
"I had some great blocking out there on the returns and I just ran my routes and Ty game me some great balls to catch. I'm confident in my abilities and coaches put me out there and they trust me to do the right job. I just go out there and do what I'm supposed to do."

Magner on where he sees himself fitting into the Falcons roster:
"Anywhere I can help the team. If it's special teams and that's my job, that's what I'll do. Or if it's as a backup receiver, that's what I'll do. I'll do anything."

Magner on if playing in the wide-open Bowling Green offense helped him:
"It's helped a lot. A lot of the calls we had at Bowling Green are exactly the same as they are here. Personnel is different, but the calls and terminology is the same."
