I just read on rivals.com that the #18 ranked player in the state of Michigan is comeing here his name is Derick Brighton he has a bro that plays for MSU. He is going to be a WR here and stands 5'11 175-195 range in weight and runs a 4.5 Our RB coach was the person who was recruiting him. Sounds like to me another great class will be comeing in

You beat me to it

I was just about to come on here and post this. I had heard this from a man I know that is all about Michigan HS football (he is turning into a BG fan from what he says, lol).

Scout.com has Brighton as a two-star player at 6'0", 175, with a 4.5 40 time. Brighton plays running back, wide reciever, and defensive back. The only other schools listed as offers for Brighton are Eastern and Ball State.

In addition to Mr. Brighton, there's a TE from Ill., I believe, a QB from Cincy area, and a DE/LB from Euclid....That's FOUR...not sure about the 5th one.

I got this from a guy on another site. Here is some info on Brighton from a Michigan newspaper.
DEREK BRIGHTON

School: Allen Park.

Class: Junior.

Size: 6-0, 170.

Highlights: Rushed for 916 yards and 14 touchdowns. Had 18 receptions for 217 yards, three TDs. Returned five punts for 117 yards and a touchdown. At DB, had 73 tackles. Coach Tom Hoover: "He's an extremely talented young man. He has great speed, football savvy, athletic ability and intelligence. I expect him to be one of the top 20 seniors in the state next season. He has a very bright future." Recruited by Division I colleges. 3.9 GPA.

This is terrific news. There's an interesting sidebar to this story that makes it even better. Apparently, EMU was making a extra hard push for him and went as far as to coordinate Allen Park's opening game to be played at Rynerson Stadium. Here's the website for the event and you'll notice EMU head coach Jeff Genyk and Brighton both at the press conference.

Here's an article about the game that says one of the main reasons it's being held is to derive recruiting benefits for EMU:

Normally, BG over EMU football is not a hard choice to make, but they really pulled out all the stops to try and get him to Ypsilanti.

For Eastern Michigan coach Jeff Genyk, it's a recruiting opportunity in his own backyard.

"We're attempting to build a championship team with kids primarily from the metro Detroit area," he said.

Good luck with that.

May I suggest a sticky at the top of the page to list all of the verbals?

Perhaps I'm wrong, but didn't we recruit a LB (I think) from Allen Park a few years ago? [or was that the kid who couldn't play eventually because of some major physical condition i.e. spinal narrowing or similar]?

That's right, we recruited Lance Latkiewicz, a top-notch DL from Allen Park in 2004. He had some kind of heart condition that resulted in him having to quit football.

Huh....

This Brighton kid sounds like db to me. Watch we'll end up making him our 100th receiver. :?

Those "100" receivers seem to be some of the best in the nation.

Actually, one of the reasons he came here was he was told he'd play WR.
You don't want our coaches to become a bunch of liars, do you?
