The worst you've been treated

With the season fast approaching, I was looking back on all the past road trips I’ve made in the last 5 years. I was wondering where falcon fans have been treated the worst, and the best during road games. I would have to say the worst I’ve been treated was either at NIU or at Purdue, and the best was by far Oklahoma.

Oklahoma fans were fantastic!
Also enjoyed meeting not only the Memphis fans at the GMAC Bowl but the people of Mobile were extrememly friendly.
Looking forward to meeting a number of the Boise St. fans in September!

In 2001, I was in the marching band, and we traveled to Marshall. Those are, hands-down, the sleaziest people on the planet. Marshall fans have NO interest in watching the football game, much less cheering on their own team. Rather, they only come to the games for drunken tail-gating and to harass (harass; not heckle) the opposing team's fans, parents, cheerleaders, band, and occasionally, the football players.
During our march to the stadium, dozens of Marshall fans threw beer, trash, and chili dogs at the band. Their antics continued during the game; some fat guy told me that I had a dick in my ear. The band had to get a police escort to leave the stadium (but even the police presence didn't stop those green-clad jackasses from throwing stuff at us.)
I'm all for heckling. I have no problem with insulting the players; call them names, distract them, embarrass them; whatever. But you have to exercise some level of self-control. Apparently, Marshall didn't get that memo.

Worst: Playing the Turds in the Toilet Bowl
Best: Both times I attended a BG/OSU game in Ohio Stadium. I had many fans come up and compliment both the team and fans on the way out. Many of them believed they would have lost had we let Harris start throwing the ball right from the beginning of the second half.

I think it all just depends on where you sit. There are good fans and there are bad fans everywhere. With the exception of a couple places like Oklahoma it is a crapshoot to figure out how you will be treated. I was treated the best at NIU and the worst was probably at OSU. While some would say the exact opposite. Marshall is generally pretty bad but I have never has any individual confrontations there.

worst crowd that I have ever seen was Miami Student section at the Doyt in 2003. a group of students were verbally abusing a 70 year old man with what looked like his grandson (a 6 year old boy). curse words were flying, I actually singled a couple students out of a section and that toned it down a bit.

It's the Journey-- funny- my worst experience was the last OSU game. People swore at us coming in and I got surounded by a group of kids who were harrassing the he## out of me after the game. I thought I was in Toledo where I WILL NOT GO(remind me of that!)
Best fans- Penn State- every one was super nice. Believe it or not- Alabama fans were great to talk to even during the game and were very knowledgeable.

Purdue fans were great to Class of 61 and me in 2003.
For me, the absolute worst was CMU the last couple times. They were the most obnoxious, rude students I've ever seen. Kicking their tails on their turf was the best!
In all honesty, I've never had a problem at Marshall or Toledo.

I think UT's students are too dumb to start anything. If any group of idiots ever had a chance to really lay the smack into someone, it was those kids across the aisle from us last November, and the best they could come up with was the very high schoolish "Why so quiet?" and the fat girl commenting on how "BG girls are ugly".

Remember Laura Hart's stories after one road trip? Where was that... Western?
Worst Fans/Best Fans?

Since I've been just about everywhere the Falcons have played, I'd have to say that the WVU fans were by far the rudest, most obnoxious I've encountered...They were drunk before the game...and when they saw our Orange, it was like a bull seeing RED.... swear words galore...for no reason as we were just walking to the stadium....Perhaps it's just a West Va. thing for those of you who've experienced similar probs. at Marshall. Also ran into some pretty rude (read DRUNK) fans after the last OSU game..Their "smartass" comments drew a lot of laughter from the rest of the crowd around us.
The best? Probably a tie between Penn ST. and Kentucky.... We were invited to a tailgate party prior to the 1st BG/PSU game, as well as a postgame party, "no matter how the game comes out"...great people, very friendly and generous.
While leaving the KY. game in 85, a guy started right toward me as we were leaving the stadium....seemed like a possible problem, but he just reached out his hand and said, "Y'all shamed us". We talked for several minutes, but I was impressed with the way he dealt with losing...since I'd also been at the other Ky. games, which resulted in narrow BG losses, I wasn't sure what to expect.
As the Freak said, we were treated well by the Purdue fans after the game, stopped to talked to some postgame tailgaters...and believe it or not my experience with the TU fans were also quite positive...they were down after the 1st half....but perhaps my response at that time was, "there are 2 halves to FB games"..... they were very pleasant to us and Enjoyable to talk with.

Western Michigan the worst...by far.
when we were there Suishams last year what was that '01? After the game we were taunted and threatened and their fans were throwing stuff at our players as they walked back toward the locker room...thats the same year karry campbell called the timeouts even though western had the ball with just a few seconds left they were all pissed cos they thought we were dragging it out...
then last year my roomate had beer thrown on him.
the nicest fans was CMU or Akron (the first game we really got a glimpse of cole due to injureis to suisham and harris in the game and he busted off that nice TD run dragging 2 or 3 guys into the end zone) for the games i have been too...i didnt go to Oklahoma..

Like another said on here, it all depends on where you were in the crowd. My roommate went to PSU with the band and he will never go back. He had rocks thrown at him and people intentionally running through the ranks saying every swear word in existence.
