This is why I wonder if the Sebo will even be built. A universtity this successfull in a varity of sports from football to ladies basketball and softball, and we can't get more donatations to get this SEBO thing done. I've read that overall giving to the university is up, but where are those funds going? Obviously not the athletic dept. It's like there's not enough of the big donors that even care about the athletic dept. at all. Does anyone know why for the life of me? :?

The Sebo will be built and done, maybe not to those first drawings, but it will provide everything that the Athletic dept needs it too.
As to those other donations, those funds are going to help support the University and the education it provides, Which vastly out competes the athletic dept in terms of importance. It funds faculty, provides scholarships, helps pay all the maintance costs, keeps the physical plant running and everything else involved in running a University. There are 15K undergraduate students. Maybe 500 athletes. If we are only going to have a limited number of big donors, I would much prefer to see them donate to University and not the athletic department. I love to support the teams, but BG is so much more important too me than the football team or women's basketball.

PGY, nice post. You can't be critical of anyone who donates to the university at large. It is more than an athletics club.

From the BGNews article:

"Bowling Green has a renowned football program, probably the best in the entire MAC conference."

Can we get mad at the dolts from ESPN if our own students can't get it right?

Um...maybe I read the wrong column but where does it say anything about the SEBO in there?

Yes, yes we can. And the reason is simple, they have degrees. The students, again STUDENTS, who write for the BG News are learning. Now if anyone on here went through their college careers without making even a tiny mistake then take a crack at them. I have no problems with mistakes in opening issues of the school news paper, radio station, or tv station. At the end of the semester or year that is a different story all together.

And when we win the MAC East we get to play in the MACCC.

If need be, the AD will take out a loan and slowly pay off the building. It's something that has to be done in the next two years, or bye-bye donation.

I have heard from inside information within the athletic department that if the SEBO doesnt break ground by September, SEBO is pulling his money out...I dont think its looking hot.

Well if that happens I'm certain there won't be many sebo fans and it won't look very good if we announce that we're building a state of the art facility and then have to back out. I know we have atleast half of the funds to build the facility. No doubt we still need more generous donations but I am certain we wouldn't be knocking down seats if we weren't planning on breaking ground soon.

Supposedly, to break ground, something like 60% of the funds need to be raised. The SEBO is part of the University's fundraising campaign as well. They're looking to either build or fix up nine different buildings on campus.
