I heard this kid left the team

The word from my "insiders" is that Julian Shibley, who walked on last year as a 6-foot-7 offensive lineman, has left the team. Bottom line was that he didn't like his prospects of receiving a scollie and the idea of "trying out" every year. Too bad, seemed like a good kid.

I cannot blame him. Football is a LOT of work. I would have a hard time putting all that time and effort in (the same amount as the scholarship athletes) and not get a scholarship in return. I have a great deal of respect for those walkons that do stick it out and eventually get scholarships, but I cannot blame anyone for not wanting to go through it all.

Sounds to me as if he doesn't want it bad enough.

Any other cliches that we can throw in to simplify the situation.

What if the coaches said we will give you a scholarship after your first year and then didnt.

No clue here, but I will say that the unnamed offensive lineman I know tells me scout teamers have it the worst & are the most abused people out there. The coaches are yelling at them telling them to go faster & harder & play it like it's for real. While at the same time, the upperclassmen & people who have spots are yelling at them to quit going so hard or they're going to beat the crap out of them. Maybe he just got sick of it.

To clarify - I'm not trying to cast the kid in a bad light. Just saying that I heard he left the team and that he seemed, by all accounts, a good kid.

"what if" is a hypothetical that can be applied to every situation that occurs. At the D-1 level, there can be many possibilities. Since there is no evidence of any promise, simply that the young man chose to give up his dream, then wish him well and hope he will be successful and happy in his future endeavors!!

You can believe this. Corey was on the scout team all last year and really didn't like it. He called himself a "Tackling Dummy".

I don't think it's very proper to insult a player who's not on scholarship for leaving the team.
