Best Team Ever Played by BG?

Post by Salsa »

Who is the best team ever played by BG?

My vote is for the Oklahoma Sooners that BG played last week. They have a large number of returning starters, including last year's Heisman Trophy winner and a number of projected All-Americans. And of course Oklahoma is the highest ranked team, number 2, ever played by BG. Certainly, the OU team is much stronger offensively than the Ohio State team BG played last year.

All this makes even more impressive the game that BG played against the Sooners.

I would probably agree with that, however last year's Miami team was pretty damn good. It would have been quite interesting to have seen this year's version with Rothliswhatshisname at the helm against Michigan. My guess is, it would have been a much different game.

West Virginia?

I agree that OU was the highest rated team we've played coming into the game last week...and they looked pretty damn tough.

Several years ago, (Late 80's perhaps?) we went down to W.Va. and got our heads handed to us on a PLATE!
We were down by two TD's after only 4min. or so had elapsed, and WVU had kicked off to us! This was the WVU team that ulitimately finished 2nd in the country if I recall. It was also by far the worst game I'd ever seen BG play to that point.... ( we also got creamed by Washington and K-State, but I don't recall those teams being that highly ranked)

I believe the game you are referring to was 1988. That was my first week on campus. West Vriginia hung 63 on us.

Remember who the WVU QB was in that game? He had quite a career in Canada and was McNabb/Vick/Harris while those guys were still in grade school . . .

Okalhoma toughest team!

Post by Dr.Sooner »

OU has no less than 15 NFL draft picks next year with about 8 in the first round! OU would be #1 if USC wasn't the media darlings. The 1988 West Virginia team benifited from a week schedule and was destroyed by ND. Oddly enough BG's most highly rated and toughest team to date prior to OU was 1975 when they played and lost to a top 10 Miami (O) team 20-17. That Miami team produced quite a few NFL players and defeated Florida in the Citrus Bowl.

Wait a minute - I thought there was some East Coast bias against West Coast schools!

I'd say Oklahoma....but what about Ohio State last yr? Defending national champs....and 14 players selected in the draft this past yr. Any thoughts?

I'd say the Sooners were a touch better. OSU just wants to beat you, the Sooners want to kill you, salt your land and steal your women and/or dogs.

Who me? Nah, I wouldn't do that! I just thought I would throw that out. I mean as ugly as the Bucks win, they're still 27-2 in their last 29 games...a NC and a #4 final ranking last yr.
