The King of Stating the Obvious during NFL telecasts couldn't even bring himself to do that on Thursday night.

After Cole muffed a fair catch (in the midst of a downpour), Theismann decided to pile on and point out a mistake he did not make. He claimed that a previous pass had gone off Cole's hands that caused an interception by QB Matt Schaub. Only one problem: it wasn't him! He was 10 yards down the field when that very play occured and, as hammb pointed out, made himself visible only by struggling to tackle the guy who did intercept the pass.

He also said Cole had incured a penatly, which another poster disputes. (I didn't watch the 1st Quarter).

If this dupe had done his research, he could have pointed out how the muffed punt was an anomoly and highlighted the tremendous training camp an undrafted free agent like Cole has had, peppering in the positive comments from Jim Mora, Michael Vick and others. Theismann, best known for being the token QB "coach" on silly halftime passing contests and analyzing wheel-barrow races on ESPN, neglected to enlighten the audience on one of the best stories to come out of the NFL training camps this year.

Broadcasters make mistakes all the time, but in his zeal to criticize, he gave the nation a wholly innaccurate picture of the impact Cole Manger has made on the Atlanta Falcons and blamed him for a mistake he did not make. An apology is in order.

Theismann should apologize to the nation for years of mindless babbling that have degraded the entertainment value of every football game he has worked.

On the spelling snafu, I plead guilty. Years of seeing Keon Newsome and Urban Meyers must have worn off on me

hehe -- I've grown pretty immune to spelling and grammatical errors from reading message boards, but seeing Mignear's name mispeled ovr and ovr again on any number of boards has really started to piss me off.


I agree about Theismann's piling on last night. Pretty uncalled for IMO. I think Paul and his village idiot routine have worn off on Joe a little bit.

No, break his jaw and put him out of our misery.

I agree that he gave the public a bad idea of who Magner really is, but the people that really matter are the ones that will be breaking the game tape down today (the coaches and players). That's how he'll earn a job, not by how he's perceived in the eye of the fan.

Theisman is going to be doing monday nigth football after this year?????????

hahaha i love saying it as Cole Manger (i pronounce that as "Main grr"), i always do that even to people who dont know him b/c thats what Bob Davie has accidentally called him before so it has stuck...

Maybe Bob Davie needs to explain to Theisman about his 'man-love' for Magner.

at least that is all better than our own PA announcer calling him KYLE MIGNER at the beginning of the year.

I especially liked when he introduced the men's hoops team. I don't remember what he said, but he absolutely BUTCHERED Josh Almanson's name. How do you butcher the name of the local kid who has become your starter? As I recall the name was so far off I was trying to figure out where it even came from...
