What is the biggest game in the history of BG football? I'm thinking of BG football since it became a member of the top Division in NCAA football.

Up to this point, I would have to say the Game Day game against Northern Illinois a couple of years ago was BG's biggest game. It was on national TV, the Game Day show gave BG a lot of exposure, and we won big time with a very explosive performance.

However, I believe the upcoming game against Wisconsin has the potential for being BG's biggest game ever.

I think this is likely if BG wins big and Omar has a huge day.

This game too will be on national TV. As a first game in the season, it could elevate BG into national prominence and probably insure a Top 25 ranking. A huge performance by Omar could enhance his national reputation and maybe put him solidy into Heisman consideration. A big win might significantly boost season ticket sales since the first home game isn't until October. A big win would surely affect recruiting. A big win might even positively affect scheduling for the future. And a big win would help maintain the new image of the MAC as an up and coming conference.

If it is a close game and BG wins, it could still set the table for BG to achieve national prominence. If BG loses a close one, the team will probably have to win the MAC title to gain some national respect. And if BG loses badly it will be a setback to the gains the program has made over the last few years.

This one could be big, maybe the biggest ever!!

good stuff -- but I disagree with one thing. A big win would not help scheduling in the future, it would hurt us. The more big name schools we beat on the road, the more the rest of the big name schools will hide from us come scheduling time.

I had never thought of the 2003 Northern Illinois game as Bowling Green's biggest ever, but it's a interesting idea and you may be right.

Wasn't NIU ranked 15th coming into that game? That's higher than Purdue was ranked in 1972 when the Falcons won in their first game ever against the Big Ten.

And, obviously, with Game Day there and all that...

It may very well have been our biggest win ever.

Having followed BG football since 1985 I believe the NIU game was the biggest. However, if we had beaten OSU in 1992, that would have been the one.
When we beat Wisconsin it will become our most important victory ever. However, two weeks + later the Boise game becomes our biggest win ever. To create the biggest excitement in the history of Bowling Green athletics we need an undefeated season. Then of course the biggest game in Bowling Green history will be January 4, 2006 for the long-awaited 2005 BG-Michigan match-up. Although USC is a strong possibility and my biggest wish would be a BG-Florida Rose Bowl Game!

I always knew Corso was an idiot, however now I have to add Herbstreit to that club as well, for both picked the Suckeyes to win it all. Wouldn't it be sweet to see/hear them eat their words after week #1. Go RedHawks!!!!!

The NIU game could very well be "the" game, so far. It was late in the season, had a big impact on our conference race, both teams were ranked and, of course, it was in the national spotlight.

Could a game from this season rise to that level? Sure. Time will tell, but Wisky isn't really a candidate.

Agree 100% 87. Wisky is getting votes on name alone. They were a very good team in 2004...but they've lost 2 straight, 2 by way of blowout. They are rebuilding this year.
I fully expect to win this game...and why shouldn't we feel confident? The captains at the Kickoff Reception and all the coaches are just itchin' to get going.

BG will quiet the crowd with a great offensive display...and our defense is going to be solid.

Theyre just being realistic...I really dont want to ruin the parade and I will cry with the rest of you if it happens, but I think an 11-1 USC team will still make it to the rose bowl over a 12-0 BG team....I am sorry to all I have pissed off, but its reality. The voters dont want to see a MAC team in the national championship

The California Bowl when we beat Fresno State was huge. I think the odds were really against us at the time, and BG hadn't won a bowl in so many years. The fact that we even went to a bowl was huge, but then to win, was great. I think this game set the foundation for BG football today.

What a great game....our first bowl win, actually. Especially after losing to Fresno St in 1982, 29-28. BG led 28-7 going into the 4th. Then we all know what happened in 1985.

I have that game on tape when it was on Sportschannel. The quality isn't that great but who cares?

I have that game on tape. Never watched it, for obvious reasons, but could never bring myself to throw it out. Of all the years I spent covering sports, that was the worst day.
