OHIO Magazine has article about BG football

Hi all-
Sorry if this has made the board (I didn't see it anywhere) but the September 2005 issue of "OHIO" has a nice article about the BG 'football experience'. It also mentions Ohio State and the college of my hometown, Mount Union. Check it out at

So you're from the Carnation City of Alliance? Mt Union is expected to roll again in 2005.

Driving along Ohio's numerous interstates on a fall Saturday afternoon, you are likely to see more than one passing car with a college pennant hanging from the antenna sporting the Buckeyes, Falcons or even the Zips. It can only mean one thing - college football season has begun.
Tailgaters pop up all over campus until they hear the band start with the familiar fight song. Excitement builds as the kick-off sends the ball flying in the air. The players run back and forth across the field tackling, dodging, throwing and catching until one player breaks away from the rest and sprints to the endzone for a touchdown.
But a football game wouldn't be complete without the marching band's half-time show. From the The Best Damn Band in the Land to the the most exciting band in the land , each college has its own style of marching shows and every now and then welcomes back its Alumni band.
Along with alumni band night comes many other theme nights to promote school spirit. Bowling Green State University has a Hall of Fame Night (September 9), during which past players are inducted into the school Hall of Fame, as do OSU and Ohio University, both on September 16. The University of Akron hosts an Academic All-Stars Night (September 16) as well as a 100th-season celebration September 30. Parents and Family Night seems to be popular at such colleges and universities as the University of Toledo September 30, Ohio University September 23, University of Akron October14, and November 4 at BGSU and Miami University.
After a week of building school spirit, it's time for the annual Homecoming game, complete with special marching band shows and packed stadiums to cheer on the home team. Catch these homecoming games around the state: October 7 at BGSU and Miami; October 14 at OSU, Toledo and Kent; October 21 at OU; and October 28 at Akron.
Even bigger than the homecoming games are the grudge matches between rival schools. Tickets to those games are
usually a hot commodity and the scalpers often make a killing. Each Ohio team has a traditional rival - that one team you just really want to beat the pants off because either the schools are close to each other (such as Kent and Akron - only 20 minutes away from each other), or because the other team has a high ranking (games against Marshall seem to be big around the state), or because it all started so long ago that no one really knows why. Big rival games this season are the University of Toledo vs. BGSU (November 22) and Ohio State vs. Michigan (November 18).
So, now that fall is here, pull out your
pennants and team sweatshirts and let the games begin.

Mount has had a great team for the last decade, it seems. They are getting more recognition, which is nice because they deserve it.
...and you're welcome for the link! It's always nice to see MAC teams get positive recognition, too!

Got that in the mail today. I saw the Buckeyes on the cover and rolled my eyes. Something told me to take a second look, and I'm glad I did. Reading the BG part of the article and I was "Hey, I know him (Grant)" Read a little bit more and I saw the deep fried oreo's plug. I was "Dude!! I brought the oreos that started that!!!" That article made my otherwise dull day.
BTW, Grant, I thought you didn't like Myles?

Remember - we don't have a home game in September. So the Hall of Fame inductions will be Saturday, OCTOBER 8.

Dip 'em in batter, drop them in the fryer! They don't take long. The center will get gooey, but the cookie part should stay somewhat crunchy. They are also great with some powdered suger on top. Show up to a tailgate sometime this fall. I'm sure someone will be doing them (now that the entire state knows we do them
)
