BG vs Boise in 2007 & 2008

Today's Toledo Blade has a college preview. As part of the page on BG, Maureen F has a story about future schedules, schedules issues, etc. It mentions that Krebs is in serious negotions with Boise for another home and home series for 2007 and 2008. That is great news. Getting games with a team like Boise is outstanding.

Funny line from Coach Brandon talking about playing BCS schools instead of cupcakes: "We're not going to play St. Aloysius." (for those that don't know, St Al's is the catholic elementary school in BG that my kids attend, so I thought it was especially funny. )

Wow, Boise State must really want to play the MAC schools. They already play both Toledo and Miami in 2009 and 2010 and have BG this year and in 2006. That would be 8 games against MAC schools in the next 6 years.

Okay, so our future schedule appears to look something like this:

2006:

Sept. 2 WISCONSIN (at Cleveland)
Sept. 23 BOISE STATE
Oct. 7 at Ohio State *
at Florida International **

2007:

Sept. 7 at Arizona State
FLORIDA INTERNATIONAL **
at Boise State ***

2008:
Aug. 30 at Virginia Tech
Sept. 13 at Pittsburgh
BOISE STATE ***

2009
Sept. 12 at Missouri

2010
Sept. 18 at Ohio State ****

--
* pending next week's announcement
** I'm basing this on today's Blade, which has us playing at FIU next year. A home date would fit nicely in 2007, so I'm making an assumption there.
*** Again, basing this on today's Blade report and speculating on when each team gets the home game. There is no contract with Boise State yet.
**** I'm assuming next week's announcement on an Ohio State game won't knock this game off the schedule.

Schade,
I think you have it correct. The FIU games are official, no need for an asterisk. And there was no mention that playing OSU had anything to do with the game in 2010. My interpretation is that game would still be played. The 2006 games is simply because of the schedule expanding to twelve games.

Sort of an added thought:

They are giving Omar every reason they can think of to stay for 2006.

The Wisconsin game at Brown Stadium? The trip to Miami, which is practically his hometown? A game at Ohio State? Home with Boise (and, presumably, on ESPN)?

That's probably the best nonconference schedule we've ever had (even if it is on the challenging side).

A lot of us like to assume Omar is going to leave. Heck, in his shoes, I probably would.

But we don't know how this season is going to go. We don't know for sure that he would be a first rounder.

A lot of Memphis fans assumed DeAngelo would leave, and he didn't.

This is EXACTLY the type of OOC schedule so many of us have been pining for. Yes, it's challenging, but if we're going to "take off" instead of "tapering off" (as Coach B said), this is what we need to do.

Schade: Do you think we might be playing to Brandon, too, with this schedule?

Man ... can't wait for Saturday!

I think you hit it dead on, SF. With this scheduling, Omar may just want to come back! FIU? Right down the road from his hometown. And they are 1-A.

Playing Boise State is great....and if the BCS boys won't come to our house, let's keep scheduling teams like Boise State, Fresno State...ect. We can help each other all the while playing top notch teams. Boise and Fresno are tough as nails and don't take a back seat to anyone.

I love to see this kind of scheduling. These are big names.

WAY TO GO PAUL KREBS AND COACH BRANDON!

Don't forget we will play 12-game schedules from 2006 on out -- and that Krebs has stated a preference for a balanced home schedule rather than going with a five-and-seven.

I look at those schedules, and I think there is a pretty good chance we will have to drop a I-AA opponent in there at some point -- probably in either 2007 or 2008.

With that in mind, I'd like to restate my wish for a SWAC or MEAC team. :)
