Outcoached again...

I cannot tell you how happy I'll be when somebody takes Gregg Brandon off our hands. Yet again dominated with absolutely NO second half adjustments. Maybe its just me, but I'm not that big of a fan of offense. I'd much rather win games 21-17 (or even lose them 21-17) than I would lose a game 56-42...despite the fact we were in the game, it was painful to watch.
Again we try to run a straight up defense with undersized DL players becuase that's what we try to recruit.
Same old, same old...we'll win our 9-10 games and lose some key ones. Only problem now we're combining our lousy defense with a crappy kicking game...
Agreed

I agree with you about the defense. Where were the adjustments?

The only adjustment that would have mattered in this game is if the NCAA would have allowed us to play with two fewer guys on offense and two more on defense.
Each year our offense looks a little more potent and has a new wrinkle or two, but our defense looks like the same schemes with less talent to execute them.
We are going to have to improve a great deal to beat Miami or UT, much less Boise State.

Flipper the halftime adjustments were nonexistant, but I'm more upset about the offseason coaching. We continue to not get good athletes onto our defense. We have never, in Brandon's tenure, made great half time adjustments. Corey Partridge will be a great WR, but would it be wrong to put a good athlete like that on defense?
Unreal...I'm sickened by how bad our defense was.
Adjustment?

The only adjustment that would have helped is if you could have playted with 14 on D. You can't coach size.
Omar is the real deal, I'm glad we won't see him (or anyone like him) again this year. I think our young DBs got about three games experience in just this one game.
Good luck the rest of the way.

I agree you cannot coach size, but you can recruit it. We don't even try.
You're probably right that no adjustments could've helped, but when what we did in the first half didn't work, why did we continue to do it in the second? Kudo's to UW, we looked pathetic.

agreed..not sure if we were outcoached or just totally overmatched at the line. The Wisconsin O line blew our doors off. Adjustments may not have mad any diffrence.
Yes Omar is the real deal..A blast to watch..Wish Sharon would have cought that bomb at the end of the game....
Our defense just blows PERIOD!! If we don't start tackling people, we will have ZERO shot against Miami and Toldeo....
This is what I expected. All along I was saying that I am not sold on our defense. Yes we can score lots of points but if we get in these shootouts with good running teams we are not going to fare well.....
See you all next week after the BALL STATE game.....

I saw eight in the box most of the second half and some run blitzes from the corners... seemed to work sometimes.

I'd love to see the 8 men in the box, because the only time I saw them were on the 4th and 1's. We got beat guys. Physically, coaching-wise, we got beat today. Our D refused to adjust and Wisky called us on it.

hammb, i don't think we've never made good adjustments at hyalf time, we just don't seem to do it on the road.
I will agree about the offense getting the ath;etes though. Dan Macon was recruited to play LB. We seem to need some help there, but instead he's our third string TB. There was a lot of talk about partridge playing DB, but he (like Rhett Magner this year and maybe Derek Brighton next year) entered the program and was made a WR.
It is really frustrating to note that the defense has declined as much or more as the offense has improved since Urbie and Brandon hit town.
Give this team the 2001 defense and we'd look a heck of a lot better.

True, we made great adjustments at the '03 UT game.

I wonder if Tim Beckman had a chuckle when he saw the scoreboard...
Another coaching blunder was the insanity at the end at the goal line. Why did we not spike it right away, then we could have had 3 pass attempts at the TD and would have had a chance at an onsides kick.

that was embarassing.. but it was actually a blow by the refs, 1st off he was in the endzone for a TD, and if you say he wasnt then you certainly cant wait for Wiscy to switch there entire goalline D on the field before making the ball live again!
Halftime adjustments

That game was pathetic from a defensive standpoint. The tackling was atrocious. They could have put tackling dummies in there and they would have been more effective. Too many arm tackles, players trying to dive at the ball carrier. I thought GB said they wanted to address those types of things in the off season. Oh well, atleast it wasnt a MAC game.
