Do you want another positive from Saturdays game?!?! Antonio Smith's slobberknocker on Stocco made the lead-in to the Top 10 for the WEEK on Sportscenter! It didn't make the actual Top 10, but they showed the hit complete with the "HE BOBBY BOUCHET'ed HIM!" comment from the announcer! I almost didn't believe it when I saw it! :D

I'll post a cheap vid of it later on tonight, along with a few other plays (Omar TD passes to Lane and Sanders, Chuck's catch on 3rd and 26, Fry's nice run, and there might be another that I'm forgetting about.)

In Sunday's Madison newspaper Coach Alvarez was quoted as being quite upset about that hit. He said that the Big Ten is emphasizing helmet to helmet hits and his team met with officials and watched tapes of hits that were said to be illegal.

Alvarez was quite sure that Smith's hit on Stocco was illegal.

Stocco's quote "He sure came up and gave me a kiss, didn't he?"

Maybe Stocco shouldn't have put his head down -- Smith certainly did.

Whats that old saying? If you can't take the heat...

Alvarez is a bitch. I was always pretty neutral on him, maybe even leaning to the side of "he could be a hell of a guy to have a beer with", but watching him run out to the numbers on every other play to argue got really old. Maybe Barry needs to worry about disciplining his own players before he starts whining about others to the league offices. (It was nice to see Booker get some carries, wasn't it? ) Thing with the hit was, if Stocco puts on a juke about a foot to his left, he's gone. Smith hit him with his shoulder, but there was no effort to wrap him up at all. That said, I loved the hit, even if it meant they went to the ground and realized we weren't stopping it.

I was watching the game on tv and Spielman and said that it was definitely a clean hit that he didn't go for his helmet that his head was going to the side when Stucco put his head down toward Smith's helmet. Clean hit.

I'm glad Stocco was tough enough to come back from that hit.

Badger fans, in the main, think the hit was legal in spite of Barry's protestations.

Stocco should have been sliding sooner or moved his head out of the way instead into the way. Smith was flying in, Stocco moved into the hit. Certainly looked legal to me.

Badger fans also complained on the play that Jelani ran into the kid trying to catch a punt, and was falgged, but he was pushed into him by a Wisconsin player if you watch the film, according to Coach Brandon.

I read that.

My father watched the game on TV. He reports that the ESPN crew reviewed that play several times -- and concluded it was legal. Vicious, cold-hearted -- but legal.

(And a thing of beauty).

As soon as the flag came down, Jelani motioned like that's what happened.
