Just Yell A Little Bit

Some of you are probably going to ridicule me for this, but oh well. I am watching the replay of the game on tv right now, not sure why, and they just showed the run of Calhoun on fourth down for a 20 yard td. And what does Coach do after his defense gives it up, absolutely nothing. I don't like to criticize coaching, but this is football. Yell at somebody, there are times when you can't be nonchalant about things, and when you give up a touchdown on fourth down on a run, I think that you might just have to yell a little bit and try to get someone fired up. I know someone else said that it would be nice to see a little of Coach Dakich's fire on the football staff, and I would have to agree after watching the replay. I think that at this point, when we are expected to play with anyone, when you aren't doing the things that are supposed to be done, you have to get in someone's face. Just my humble opinion.

I would love to watch some of you guys coach and have a tape available!!!

When you are simply out matched...all the yelling in the world won't fix it. Yell, if there is no effort, but yelling for the sake of hearing ones self is not beneficial.

Same here -- I called it before it happened. i remember the excited feeling I had during the OSU game that we could stop them on fourth and take control. I also remember being crushed when they ran it in easily. Before fourth and 1 this time I said "remember Ohio State?". At least I wasn't disappointed this time.

The most disappointing thing for me is that everyone is willing to dismiss this whole debacle as us simply being outmatched. I just don't see it that way. This Wisconsin team is not as good as the 2003 Purdue team. The difference is that our defense has gotten worse & worse each year for the past 3.
If it was simply that we were outmatched then why were we outmatched? It seems like we get outmached quite often whenever we play a team that can run the football.
If it was simply being outmatched why did the offense suck for the 3rd quarter after dominating in the first half & then moving it again well in the 4th? Were they suddenly outmatched at that time? No, they were outcoached.

This is exactly why we did not load things up to an extreme. Once he gained two yards, he was gone. Five of our top six tacklers saturday play in the secondary. Ouch.

yeah there were lack of adjustments made but the loss of PJ Pope was a lot bigger of deal than people around here make it out to be. PJ Pope is excellent at picking up blitzes and cathing the ball when the quarterback is in trouble. In the first quarter we were 5/5 on third down conversions. I think we missed our next seven after that. Without Pope we were pretty much one dimensional. The long ball was just about the only thing working. I'm glad to see we have that threat now but we are going missing having a great third down receiver like Magner.

Does get excited alot, when we score a TD. He doesn't seem to show much disgust or emotion or anything when we give up all these rushing yards and td's. Why he's like that I don't know. It does look like Coach Brandon doesn't really care bout what the defense does as long as the offense scores on every possesion, but he has to care some. He is after all a offensive minded coach and has been probably his whole career. This where DC Lovett has to come in and be the Dan Dakich maybe for the defense to get things done in that regard. As much as we chastise DD for being so down his team at times on the post-game interviews and such , atleast he's brutally truthfull about what he thinks we need to do to be succesfull. Coach B. seems to put the onous all on the offense to carry the load and I think thats a major flaw probably for him.

Losing Pope definitely hurt.
I know it's not very vogue to say anything less than praise about Omar, and I love him as much as the next guy, but there were a number of plays where he missed things as well in that stretch. I distinctly remember a couple plays where Omar saw the blitz was coming and was watching the rushers and dropped his head from looking downfield. Guarantee that the NFL scouts saw that too.
That 3rd quarter just looked like we were shocked that what we had been doing all along was now not as successful. BJ, while not Pope, is still a very good running back. Just seems to me that there was more to this game than being outclassed physically. That 3rd quarter looked awful, and that seems to be a prevailing trend.

Yeah, for some reason we forget how to run our offense in 3rd qtr's and its mind boggling.

It seems that way, Hammb. We've had some stinker 3rd quarters the last few years.
