Leinart factor in Jacobs returning?
If you were Omar Jacobs what could bring you back to BG?
A MAC Championship potentially? I would not think so.
Heisman trophy? With Ginn, Bush and Peterson all sure returnees (correct? they are all sophomores right???) Its possible but all 3 would have the inside track on him.
is there a statistical record or something else that he could shoot for?
Leinart may go down as one of the greatest College players ever. That would be reason enough for me to return. Would there be anything like that for Omar?

The new trend in insurance policies for stud college athletes expected to be drafted may influence him some. Leinart admits he may have gone pro if the insurance policy was not available to him. Maybe the development of our young talent will convince him to stay if any goals are not accomplished this year.

Bush is a junior and the consensus is that he will be in the NFL Draft this year.
Ginn's Heisman chances are remely slim because the award almost always goes to a QB or RB, and I can't see Tressel adandoning the running game enough to get him the number of touches he needs to put up gaudy enough numbers to be in consideration.
Peterson is a true sophomore and the likely favorite in 06, but he was injured last week and Oklahoma's utter lack of a passing game without Jason White was exposed by TCU, meaning defenses will crowd the line even more to stop him in the future.
If Omar returns, he'll have legitimate chances at being the #1 overall draft pick in 2006, getting at least an invite to NYC for the Heisman and winning a championship.

I think Leinart stayed because he knew he was going to be king of Southern Cal and why wouldn't he want to spend one more year at college when all you had was ballroom dancing to left to graduate?
Beaches, babes, night clubs and everything else he could ever want at his finger tips.
I can't say the same for Omar. He could be the king of BG have some babes but not California babes, he won't be on any beaches anytime soon. But he could be the man at Brathaus or even Ziggy's!

I did not even think of the fact that we will play OSU, Wisconsin and Ball State.
It would also likely help his draft status and could give him the number one overall pick.
One thing the coaches could be thinking is that if Dan Macon plays, and shows something, Jacobs might not think the backfield cupboard is bare.

I dunno. I'm not a betting man, but if I were, I'd say his decision to leave will be based soley on how high he believes he will be drafted. Just a hunch.Germainfitch1 wrote:I did not even think of the fact that we will play OSU, Wisconsin and Ball State.

MACMAN
I would like believe that even should we win a MAC Championship, and Bowl game. That Brandon would stay, and convince Omar to stay for one last season, a season that has the potential to be on Record....
1. WI at cleveland
2. Bosie at Home
3. Ohio State ( after what may be an elected championship season)
and another MAc Title Shot and if 1,2 and 3 = W a BCS Bid under the new system.
All of which would raise his stocks int he NFL, and none of which would detriment his future, and a pice of paper at the end of the college rainbow out of the way.
This decision for him is a ways off but not far, and I would guess that he has had only brief thoughts about it. In the end he will make the choice that is best for him, and is best for his pursuits in chasing his prodreams.
I would also imagine that any agent worth his salt and not just chasing a paycheck would encourage Omar to make not just the best fin...choice but one about ability...the pros are faster than college and one more year of confidence may not be bad, esp with a good O-line like we have....vs injury and loss of dogh ra me....
In theroy he should stay one more year from a growth perspective, and to take another pop at some power houses ...
But
I will respect any choice he makes, just as I will if Brandon hits the silk after this season.

But, around the edges, things like our schedule, the chances of a Heisman, the players we return, the coach will play a role, I would think.1987alum wrote:I dunno. If he projects as high as they are saying right now in the draft (top 6 picks), no way he'll be back. Can Brandon or anyone us really tell the kid to turn down $20-$40M in guaranteed money and stay in school? If he puts up another year of great numbers, he'll have nothing to prove his senior year. Winning a championship at BGSU means a lot more to us than it does to NFL scouts and GMs.

Quit crying. This is the second thread I have seen you attacking '87 in and I'm sick of it. He certainly doesn't deserve your crap and no one else wants to read it.Germainfitch1 wrote:was that meant to be sarcastic because if so its just stupid, you seem like a bully.

Remember when we were all aching for football season to get here?
Why are we in such a rush to see what happens NEXT year? (Or at the very earliest, three months and ten or more games from now...)

If he is projected as a top 6 pick I would hope that Brandon would encourage him to go pro. I think the coach's job is to help the player make the decision that is best for the player, not necessarily what's best for the school. When you recruit players you tell their parents you're going to be a father figure, yadda, yadda. Part of that responsibility is in decisions such as this one. If the NFL projects him in the top 10 of the draft it is clearly best for Omar to leave school. The guaranteed money is huge and there's little way to improve upon it with another season in college.Rollo83 wrote:If he projects as high as they are saying right now in the draft (top 6 picks), no way he'll be back. That said, I'm still not convinced that he'll project as a top 10 guy. He's very talented, no doubt, but Big Ben wasn't a top 10 pick, and we all remember what happened to Aaron Rodgers last year. If he's not going to be in the top 10, he would probably be better served by another year, because after the top 5-10 the guaranteed money drops big time.

Part of me wonders if Omar would leave after this year to avoid all of the hoopla that goes with being a number 1 pick. I think it stands to reason that if he stays his senior year and keeps putting these numbers up (which he will in the MAC), that he would be a top 5 pick, probably first overall. Mel Kiper has him ranked as the number 1 junior QB.
He seems from his comments to the media that he is a laid back type of guy who would like to possibly fly under the radar into the NFL. Maybe he wants to be a mid-first round pick and kind of roethlisberger his way into a backup situation on a good team as opposed to being the cardinals' or browns' "future of the franchise" type guy.
Whatever happens, i just hope Omar gets good advice and makes the best choice possible for him.
