Why in the hell can that team up north get a Big 11 and a Big 12 team at home in the same year. Why is it that we struggle with this, I know this issue has been discussed in the past but damnit it's gettin old and im tired of takin a back seat to other teams in the conference.

Part of it probably has to do with the fact that the Glass Bowl is a lot bigger than the Doyt- for now, at least. Next year's game with Wisky is sort of a home game, even though it will be in Cleveland; am I right in thinking that that decision is based on stadium seating capacity?

It is my understanding in some previous years that TU has paid a fairly high sum of $$ for some of those teams to visit the Glass Bowl. I'm not sure if they're doing that with this Iowa State agreement or not. TJR might be able to help us out.

Don't get me wrong but that Boise game excites, but it's not like having a Big XII team at home. It'll be a good game. That Wisky game worries me attendance wise. If it's at the Doyt, sold out no problem. Having it in Cleveland just worries me, I know we have a big group of Alumni there, but I just don't seem to optimistic on the turnout for that game.

According to the figures I saw for this year's watch party invites, there are more alumni in Cleveland (17000+) than either Toledo (15000+) or Columbus (9000+). If we can get the Cleveland area to turn out in force and get a good number of alumni to travel from Columbus and Toledo, I see no reason why we cannot fill that stadium with its usual mosaic of orange and brown.falconman wrote:Having it in Cleveland just worries me, I know we have a big group of Alumni there, but I just don't seem to optimistic on the turnout for that game.

I don't understand what you're getting at. I said I wasn't optimistic. Is there going to be any transportation for students to get to Cleveland next year? If there is that would be a major plus. If not then I don't think you'll see to many students at that game.transfer2BGSU wrote:What makes you optimistic?
The fact that for games on-campus, we can't get 12,000 students to show up so you think that'll be the same for the game in Cleveland![]()

Falconman- a couple of things
1st- we had a Big XII team in a few years ago and drew poorly.
2nd- When comparing directly with Toledo I think transfer2bgsu's point is often overlooked. The Toledo athletic department provides good paydays for these schools. I can remember about 10 years ago BG had a home and home with Navy. Toledo opened a season with Navy and was touting the deal as a chance to see a storied program this and that. An insider from Toledo informed me Toledo actually lost money in that one off game with Navy because they guaranteed $500,000 more than we did.
I would rather we continue our scheduling and make money rather than promise Northwestern a lot of money just to say "we can schedule a Big Ten team". I'd rather get the paycheck from playing at Ohio State or Wisconsin or Oklahoma thant lose money and play before a smallish crowd at the Doyt just for bragging rights.
This is not a knock on what Toledo is doind I am just saying from a business standpoint it makes more sense if you are Bowling Green to work out the deals we have seen in recent years.

all bowling green
That'd be like playing a I-AA team again. Let's not start on that one.Ineedbotox wrote:I could probably pull some strings for ya & get Baylor, but I doubt it would bring in near as many Big 12 fans as you'd thinkfalconman wrote:Don't get me wrong but that Boise game excites, but it's not like having a Big XII team at home.

I agree. Next year's schedule:UK Peregrine wrote:What, Wisconsin and Boise at "home" aren't good enough for you?
Plus, which school played the 1AA opponent at home this season?
WISCONSIN (at Cleveland)
BOISE STATE
at Florida International
at Ohio State
is probably the best in school history.
Also, keep in mind that as much bragging as Toledo fans are doing about getting a home and home with Iowa State, it's been done. Bowling Green had a home-and-home with them in the late 1970s.
It's Iowa State. Another deal with them would be cool, but it isn't that big a deal. I think even casual fans may recognize that Boise State is a more intriguing opponent than the Cyclones.
Dayons, I agree on some points with ya. But sometimes you have to spend money to make money. If Toledo can spend that kind of money so can we, but I would never give Navy $500,000, I betcha if we offered Michigan State that, they would jump on that deal. I think that would be a reasonable business deal. Recruits look at these scheldules to see what kind of teams we play. Don't get me wrong I'm thrilled with next years schedule, but Toledo's '07 home scheldule is pretty impressive.

As far as Wisconsin.
I would expect:
15,000 to 20,000 Bowling Green loyalists
7,000 to 10,000 Wisconsin fans.
10,000 to 15,000 Browns fans/neutral observers/families looking to see some good football.
In other words, anywhere from 32,000 to 45,000.
I forget, off hand, what the MAC record is for a home crowd. I think it's in danger.
