S&C Coach Aaron Hillman.....
Uh...is he still with us? And if so , is he losing it?
I remember Meyer praising this guy left and right when was here and credited our wins at Mizzou and Northwestern and like games to Hillman getting our guys in the best shape to compete with those guys.

Coach Hillman is still with us and is still one of of the most sought after S&C coachs in the country. He has turned down big ten offers (word is that his wife likes it here;very young children).
The injuries we are experiencing are due to contact during the summer, not lack of conditioning. Our problems on defense are coaching related. No adjustments, simplified defense, poor coaching.
For the last four years BG ran a very complex defense designed to put players (who were frequentlly outmatched) into position to make plays by using complex reads. That was successful against Big 10 teams. We don't do that anymore. And, the result is what happened Saturday.
Oh, by the way, Coach Hillman also coachs the offense. They seemed to do ok.

Very good point. Beckman must know what the heck he was doing for Ohio State to come calling. Trying to make the defense play straight up may work for Alabama, but will it work at BG? The personnel is not the same. For the last four years BG ran a very complex defense designed to put players (who were frequentlly outmatched) into position to make plays by using complex reads. To slam Coach Hillman like that, you must be out of your mind. Look at our guys before he got here, and look at them now. All of them are stronger and more athletic.falconboy wrote:Uh...is he still with us? Calm the heck down and start thinking about things in a realistic manner. You need to stop making everything the end of the world. One loss means jack squat especially since it has nothing to do with the season goal for the team.

Uh, oh. This is ringing true with me, and I don't like this feeling.Falconwise wrote:Our problems on defense are coaching related. No adjustments, simplified defense, poor coaching.

I hope Lovett figures this thing out. We aren't Clemson or Auburn. Even if he can get the bodies in here he wants, that doesn't help with this year.

Exactly the kind of posts that falconboy puts in the hockey forum that makes me go nuts all the time. Welcome to my world.Metz wrote:To slam Coach Hillman like that, you must be out of your mind. "Regarding BGSU, I would think their biggest strength is that they never give up, They never slow down and they battle hard even after the other team scores. We have to be on our game and never, ever take the foot off the gas for a second."

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

Nice reply, Metz. Coach Hillman has played a MAJOR part in ALL BG teams' successes. I hope he stays as long as possible!Metz wrote:To slam Coach Hillman like that, you must be out of your mind.
