Our D sucks, but...

Antonio Smith is the man.
Pick 6 tonight, and the big hit last week.
Atleast there's one player you can applaud b/c the rest of those guys are just plain garbage.

Our D does not "suck." In fact they showed quite a bit of improvement tonight. They got burned on some trick plays, but they made the stops when they needed to in spite of the fact that the offense kept turning the ball over and kept them on the field MUCH longer than they should have been out there. Our defense certainly does not suck.
And while we're at it, where the hell did this term "pick 6" come from? I've never heard it before this year, yet I'm hearing it everywhere. It may be that it makes me feel old to not understand where kids come up with this kind of crap anymore (and I'm only 24!), but I don't like it one bit. It sounds too trendy and too "California" for me. Kind of like the new "popped" collar trend. It just makes people look silly.

Antonio Smith made a great play on the ball in the fourth quarter tonight and a great run to score. He also had a great hit last week on Stocco. However, he was burnt badly for a TD last week and at least 2 of the long TD's tonight were completely his fault. I know he is a true freshman with a lot of talent, but to proclaim him as "the man" is really stretching it in my book.

well i dont pop my collar, but the term "pick 6" seems pretty common to me, not anything new. and also, don't kid yourself, our D sucks. the same team that didn't score against Iowa, scored way too much against us, and even if they got some guys back, it's Ball St fellas. if we don't improve on the defensive side, it's gonna be a disappointing season for alot of Falcons fans......

I'm going to say this very calmly:
Our defense was not the reason this game was so close. Had the offense not uncharacteristacally turned the ball over so much, this game would have been a blowout and we wouldn't be having this ridiculous conversation.

So you are saying the D did not make this game as close as it was...

I'm saying that you are a d-bag and that you're old.
And also that our defense is not the entity that needs to take the blame tonight.

Cane, 17 BSU came off of turnovers.
Take a look at the box score and there are three to four items which stand out. Average starting field position. Their kickoff return yards. Average Time of Possession in the third and fourth quarters when BG was seemingly either turning the ball over or going 3 and out.
14 points were off of big plays. Some trickery was involved as I am to understand it. It's not like BSU was marching up and down the field in the first half.
The defense is a bit of a problem but they ARE improving. Don't kid yourself on that. Lovett hasn't even been on the job for seven months. Give him time. I still have faith in him.

Iowa lost to Iowa State yesterday. Bad example.

Iowa's starting quarterback was knocked out of the game, I believe, by the end of the first quarter...at least in the early second.

Listen here, sonny. They were popping collars back in the preppy 80's. They did it right on BG's campus. Yes, it does look stupid, but there's nothing new about it. Amazing what can come back to life, isn't it?

Someone hasn't been following college football announcers very closely the last 4 or 5 years if he's never heard the term "pick 6"

Jelani Jordan had a good game last night.
The defense improved, slightly.
Yes the turnovers were not good, but the not-so-special teams play annoys me more than the turnovers. You are going to have dropped balls and fumbles and yes even some INTs-those things just plain happen.
But it would be nice if we could at least count on punting and kick coverage so we aren't making our defense start in a hole.

I think we're just going to have to deal with the fact that we are not going to be very good in 2/3 of football this year. Our offense can still win us a whole lot of games and our defense can still force some turnovers to beat some teams. But I don't think we'll see any 52-0 games this year. Except for maybe against Temple =)
This is a transition year for our defense. Let's remember that before we castrate anybody. Also, we're in much better shape than Toledo was after 2 games last year. They still had a successful season, and so can we.

Hey, if we win the MAC, I'm happy. This is the last year for some great players, lets enjoy the season, and hang as many points on our opponents as we can.
