An open note to our Bobcat friends

Speaking as a representative MAC fan, I am happy that Ohio University has at long last made a tangible commitment to football. It has been embarassing these many long decades to admit that yours was among the founding members of our proud conference. I am even happier that the renewed commitment to football seems to be paying real dividends so quickly.

Despite my happiness that your program is seemingly "back" from decades of competative marginality, don't let it go to your heads. You have won one game. You still have not won the conference in over 30 years. You still have had only two winning seasons in the past 20 years. You are still running an archaic offense that has scored only handfull of points aginst Northwestern and not a single point against Pittsburgh. You, in short, are still the Ohio Bobcats until you prove otherwise. One game does not a season, or championship, make.

Again, I am happy that there is finally some light coming from Athens. I offer you my hearty congratulations on your victory over a BCS opponent, your attendance numbers, and your discovery of hope at long last. And, again, don't let it go to your heads. It has been your smug attitude in the face of defeat these many years that has led people to despise your program and its fans. We are and want to be happy for you. Don't make it impossible for us to do so.

Wishing you Godspeed,
Bleeding Orange
Representative MAC Fan

I watched the Ohio/Pitt game and it was one of the most boring games I've ever watched until the very end. But with that said, Ohio's win over Pitt is the MAC's best non-conference win by far so far this season. Ohio's win wasn't pretty, but it was a win. And believe me, that win gave them a HUGE boost of confidence and that can really carry a team. I said the hiring of Solich was huge for Ohio and I'll say what I said in the preseason again - Ohio is going to be a force to recogn with in the MAC. Maybe not this year, maybe not next, but they will be soon. Ohio has been a sleeping giant in the MAC for many, many years and this team is finally waking up. They are putting the pieces in place and are making a lot of commitments to football with facilities, coaches and now better players. Just look at the recruits that are now thinking and committing to Ohio, and the transfers from schools like Virginia Tech and Illinois that have jumped on ship already. With BG back in the MAC East, we’d better stay on our toes with improving our program and facilities as well.

I don't dispute anything you're saying here. It seems that you've missed the entire point of this letter...

Sorry - but I really wasn't responding directly to your post, I was simply making a comment about Ohio to follow yours.

Ah. Gotcha. My bad. I'm not above admitting being wrong! :)
