Ball State transfer kicker coming to BG??????

Well, after watching Timchenko missed three extra points already this season – including back-to-back misses against Ball State when we needed them, I’ve got to say this…….maybe we can get that Ball State student that made that 35-yard field goal for money during that one promotion on the field to transfer to BG and kick for us. I’m kidding obviously, but on a serious note, Timchenko MUST improve his kicking. I’m not saying the kid must be make every single kick, but damn, he’s missed three extra points in two games and I’m not sure I even want to see him attempt a field goal at this rate. If he can’t hit what is essentially a 19-yard gimme from straight on, then we may as well go for two after a TD every time and go for it on fourth downs. I will say this much, his kickoffs against Ball State were much better than at Wisconsin. But the place kicking is nerve-racking. I’m telling you, if this doesn’t get better, it will cost us in a game this year.

With Timchenko’s struggles, do we know who our second string kicker is? Whoever it is, I’ve got to believe he can at least hit extra points. To be fair, I’ve only seen Timchenko kick three times, once against Wisconsin, once against Ball State and once in practice, and none of those times were pretty. I don’t mean to pick on the guy, but he is our kicker and it is his role on the team to make kicks (extra point and field goals) and kickoff. If he can’t do it, let’s find a replacement who can. But I do hope he gets it going, especially in MAC play.

As was said in at least one of the other 12 threads about this, Nate Fry was warming up/practicing/whatever his placekicking on the sidelines late in the fourth.

We were realy realy fortunate to have had such an automatic kicker...ya know...just get to the 35-40 yard line and we had 3 pts.....we could realy use that kind of kicking again...
We should think long and hard about stealing away one of the Soccer players, or holding open tryouts right now...
his miskicks, are inexcuesable...he needs to sit for while and well that is if we have or can find a back up....the HS has a decent kid maybe should grab him now.

Well, one thing that must be remembered here. Its not always the kicker at fault. The holder could be having some problems placing the ball. I did notice later in the game AT was over on the side practicing some holds. So maybe the holder was having problem and they were going to use AT to see if that would help. Just a little perspective here. I would love to see our kicking improve just like the rest of you.

Good points. Freak had mentioned earlier that not only do we have a new kicker, but also a new holder and, IIRC, a new longsnapper. That's a lot of "new" for something that is based on routine.

As for other kickers, the name Soltis is stuck in my head. Anyone?

We should hold tryouts for PK

Sign up at the AZZ tent on Oct 8, and we'll go over to the practice field.

Winner gets an afternoon's worth of free brats from Freak.

Will be my pleasure! Can I bring my conventional style kicking shoe? It is a bit tight on the foot but I'll give it a shot. Haven't really used it much the last 20 years.

BTW, judging by how fast this Coleman Road Trip Grill works, we might have 100 brats within an hour!

Freak, are you talking about a square toe kicking shoe? We had a square toe kicker, the RB, and he used to have to rush to put on the shoe after we scored so he could go out and kick the PAT and kickoff.

Freak,

Any type of foot wear is acceptable, even bare-foot (ala Tony Franklin)...but we must now conform to current NCAA rules where kicking blocks are no longer involved.

Any chance of turning up that grill for a tailgate when Wadsworth rolls into Green on an upcoming Friday night?

Wow...that one looks a lot better than the one I "borrowed" from our HS locker room years ago. That would be it!

JS85,
When is that game? I don't get home from work until 6:15 and usually the Green games start at 7...that would make it difficult to do some grilling before the game. Afterwards, we can do some grilling from the Freak Nest!
Lemme know if you're gonna go to the game.

well i do know that BG had two kickers fighting for the spot in spring ball. I believe one completly quit and the other is now playing at osu or UT im not sure. But from what i saw in practice those two looked to be fighting for the startting spot wit each other, but timchenko wsa just given the spot. Its a shame bc we lost 2 pretty good kickers, and now were paying for it.

GO FALCONS!
