Does anyone know if Matt Leininger is back now or what is going on with his situation?

I do believe his suspension is over now.

I'm pretty sure he's back in action for the next game.

I sure hope so. He's a very good player for us, and we can sure as heck use him for the NIU game.

Back in mid-August, Coach B said ""We'll evaluate that suspension following the Southeast Missouri game and see where we're at."

Matt's suspension is of the indefinite sort and his pre-trial hearing is Sept. 17. The last I heard was that his return is dependent upon the outcome of the pre-trial. Matt's been practicing with the team, so when the suspension does end, he should be able to step right in and contribute.

According to a source close to Lenniger and the team, Brandon and Krebs agreed that he should have to sit out the first two games as a result of his actions, and that after he takes his lumps in court on Friday, he will be able to return to the field for the NIU game. Not like it would have mattered result wise in either game if he had played, but it would be nice if he had a game under his belt before a HUGE game in MAC play...........

You don't know that! He could have came up with some big sacks on White in Oklahoma to slow him down over the game. Any runs up the middle could have been held for less as well. For SEMO, it's the same idea. Anytime any player is down in any position, you are not playing your best player on the field and I think that could change part of the game (even the outcome) right there.

Quote from Coach Brandon's press conference...

Q. Is there anybody right now that is out of the picture for the Northern Illinois game?

A. No, I don't think so.

That tells me Matt very possibly will play against NIU. I really hope so.

Jelani Jordan should play as well.

Also, this little gem for Flipper....

Q. Is (Anthony) Turner going to be redshirted?

A. Yeah, that's our plan. That's why he didn't play Saturday. If we can make it through with Jason (Washington) and Van (Johnson) as the backups, I would love to redshirt Turner, absolutely.

Q. What would it take to change that plan?

A. Well, you know, if something happened to Omar (Jacobs), and Jason or Van were incapable, but I'm not thinking that way right now.

Football season sure it fun again... :D

Brandon said Leininger's problem is an unspecified school issue and does not stem from the disorderly conduct charge he faces in BG Municipal Court on Friday. "Right now I am waiting for some further information," Brandon said. "I should receive it in the next 48 hours and hopefully I'll receive it sooner rather than later."

It also says that Carson was temporarily suspended from school and he faced a university hearing yesterday to determine whether he would be permanently suspended from school.

Finally, Raishaun Stover missed a practice earlier in the week and wasn't dressed for Saturday's game. Brandon said Stover's status for NIU is yet to be determined. "We'll see (if he comes back) -- if he comes to practice," Brandon said.

I just saw Matt tonight and he said he'd be playing in the NIU game. That's as good of a source as I can find dealing with this issue :P
