Urban jumps to 14 and FSU and Michigan fall big

Its a shame FSU fell big, that game was a predetermined Miami win, did anyone else see the 4th quarter? rediculous, completely.

It makes no sense that FSU should fall. They lost to the #5 team in the country on the road by the slimmest of margins. How does that constitue a huge drop? I don't see what they did to not be considered the 6th best team in the country. And if they are not #6, miami should not be a top 5 team.

I watched every snap of that game. I personally thought BOTH teams should drop, and far. That was one of the most boring games I've seen in years, and I watch a lot of OSU football! Both teams have good athletes on defense that make for a good defense, although neither look to be totally dominating on defense either. However, both teams have TERRIBLE QBs and neither really has an overly strong running game either. What I saw was 2 QBs duking it out to see which could choke more. I cannot believe that the #5 & #6 team in the country are playing guys that are far inferior to a RS SO Omar Jacobs.

I'm sorry, but that game was awful, and after watching it I woulda knocked both teams down a few notches, FSU just a little further.

I agree with your assessment of both teams. However, my point is if you are going rank Miami in the top 5, it only makes sense to have FSU right behind them. They played them as close as possible on the road. But you are right here is a classic example of two teams being rated way too high at the beginning of the season.

Don't disagree with your logic...but wait there it is. You used a logical argument to describe something that happens in the college football system!

That's just the way the system works. Win you maintain your ground. Lose you fall. If you're low you only gain ground if others lose. I don't like it, but that's the way it is.

This system works especially awful when there is a preseason ranking to base these things on. The pollsters wouldn't drop Miami(FL) because they won the game, but you can darn sure bet that if they weren't ranked anywhere yet they wouldn't be #5 when the original rankings came out.

In all seriousness it is a real shame that the MAC is so down this year. I don't think a single major conference team will go undefeated this season.

UCLA always chokes and didn't look nearly as potent offensively in their season opener. They will struggle a little until their young WRs learn that high flying system.

LSU needs a QB and plays a positively BRUTAL schedule. Their QB play has been awful so far.

OU has as good a chance as any, but I just think they'll find a way to blow it somewhere. I still think White is overrated, and if someone pressures him, he could lose the game single-handedly.

Georgia is experienced, but I'll believe them when I see it. They also play in the brutal SEC, although have better home schedule than LSU, so that may help them. I just don't see them winning out.

Miami has serious QB issues and he will lose them at least one game this season.

OSU is just way too young across the board. They could've lost to Marshall easily. Purdue looks way too tough, and OSU goes to West Lafayette. THat team is talented though, and if they make it to 6-0 or 7-0 they could start to roll as that youth becomes experienced. I don't buy it though. I see 1 or 2 losses before the UM game, and then anything can happen.

And on, and on. THe teams that do have a legit chance of going undefeated this year are Purdue (favorable home schedule and look totally complete), Utah, Fresno, or Boise St. These aren't the high profile guys, but they could do it. I just wouldn't count on them running the table. Of course Boise & Fresno play one another, so there's one loss there.

I don't know how I got on this tangent, I guess its because I've watched quite a bit of the top 10 already this year and all have major question marks, in my mind. Of course I've been wrong before.

As bad as the BCS is I still think the biggest problem with the current system is that they shouldn't do poll votes until after the 4th or 5th week of the season.

Bowden's staff thinks Chris Rix could play QB at FSU, but Omar couldn't?

I could not agree more hammb. Preseason polls are worth about as much at UT football hype. At the MINIMUM, they should play the first week of games b4 any polls come out.

Purdue looks invincible in their first two games. Though they didn't really play anyone. Orton looks awesome thus far

No doubt. Their offense is, of course, back in full force. What shocks me is that they've replaced so much of that defense and they still look good. Right now Tiller has what looks like the best overall team in the Big10. I'm kinda glad we don't play them this year!

Hammb, you are right on. The FSU-Miami game was painful to watch. In a perfect world, the voters would recognize that neither of those teams nevers to even sniff the top ten right now. They shouldn't even have a poll until like the first week of October so you can see how good teams really are before giving them a default top five ranking.

that amazes me as well. I think Purdue lost 8 or 9 SR starters off their D from last yr...they look tough.

Big 10 could likely come down to Purdue and iowa...the only two that have shown they have potentially shutdown defenses.

Neither Miami or Florida State belonged in the top 10 to begin, and one could argue the same for Ohio State, but they'll remain until they lose because Tressel has established that history of the team doing just enough to win. In many cases it's unfair that the top 25 is always stocked full of BCS conference teams, some of whom really have no place being there. Hopefully within a few weeks we'll see (provided they keep winning) a Fresno State or Boise State in the top 10.

Hammb and I were talking on AIM, the other night and I love Purdue's offense, I just don't buy their defense yet . . . They have brought all kinds of athletes in the last 2 years to help, but I have a tough time believing they won't give up something at some point and big.

The problem they present to the rest of the Big Ten is . . . How can you stop their offense . . . 4 receivers that run exceptional routes and the hottest QB in the country. I'm going to see their UM-OSU game in November against IU . . . I can't wait.

I think pre-season polls are garbage and the rankings shouldn't come out until every team has played a minimum of one game. If you have to have the rankings the first week, fine, don't put Florida, Florida State and Miami in until they play the second week . . . I also hope that Fresno, Louisville, Memphis and/or Utah runs the table and screws it all up b/c college football needs a 10-12 game regular season with a 32 team playoff . . . Again, if you have to have the polls, use them to determine at-large teams like 1-AA does . . . The bowls would be used to house the majority of the games, or in the interest of ticket sales and travelling concerns, set up regionals with the higher seeds hosting games on a Thursday-Saturday . . . Friday-Sunday double headers for field condition purposes . . .

I'm with ya 100% Option and its a very feasible process, despite the arguments to the contrary.

That said, let's not get into this or it will again turn into a debate on the difference between a playoff and a tournament!
