I believe that if he keeps working on his technique and if he keeps learning his position, then I believe he has a nice shot to make it. Does anybody know his 40 speed by the way?

Yeah, that's all great. Did you see him get burned multiple times deep in the first few games, too? Wow, he's so fast!
For real though, he is going to be an amazing player when he gets a better understanding of the game and his position.

what metz!!!! the reason he got burned is because he trying to make plays for our defense, and our defense lacks play making ability, oh and didnt he make an amazing play by taking an interception to the house!! When was the last time you saw a hit like he layed on that Wisc QB, that hit was nasty!! this kid is good and will play on sundays

The Kid is still green but he does have size and ability and the confidence to get the job done. hes a cover corner that hits like a safety. Fact of the matter is hes the best since Patton and jansen never hit anyone.

Ehhh...the boy has played two games. Can we at least give him a season or two before we start proclaiming him the next NFL superstart from BG?

What do you mean give him a season? I thought the season was over after lost to Wisconsin.

Yeah, and if Stocco jukes a step to his left, he's gone. That hit was indeed nasty, but it was all shoulder. Knocking guys over makes highlight reels, wrapping 'em up wins ball games.
That said, like the others, I'm excited to watch him grow and gain experience for the next four years.

Coaches love it when you lay in to someone and make a big hit.
You miss that hit and you'll ride the bench for not wrapping up and driving.

Like I said "WHEN HE GETS MORE EXPERIENCE" that will help him become better. Did I say he's the greatest?? No, he just needs some time.

The kid is good and may play on Sundays, but let's give him some time to learn and improve.
In regards to him getting burnt, he was not trying to make a play on the first TD that was his fault at BSU. On the first TD bomb, he just got completely lost after his man ran a 10-yard out. When the QB got flushed from the pocket, his guy released down the field and Smith was caught staring off into space. He was not trying to make a play. In regards to his hit on Stocco...it was a nice hit. It knocked him out of the game, but it was on a 3 and 7 when we were up 20-7 (I think). In the grand scheme of things, Stocco still got the first down and the hit really did nothing for the team aside from looking good on TV.

Yeah, if only he was 15 lbs heavier, 3 inches taller, and .3 faster through the 40....................................
Anyone? Anyone?

I didn't see the BSU game, but right now all I see in this kid is potential. The hit looked cool but was terrible form. If I were his position coach I would've been lambasting him for that. Hits like that are why we LOST the Wisconsin game...nobody wrapped up. Big hits look cool, but don't win you ball games unless you follow it through by wrapping up and making the tackle.
Aside from that hit in the Wisconsin game he didn't look like anything special in coverage either. I'm anxious to see him live, because DB/WR battles is one thing I love to watch, and you really cannot get a feel for it on TV.
I don't know how tall or fast he is, but the reality is that those things WILL effect whether or not he plays in the NFL. If he's < 6'0 he damn well better be among the fastest at his position.
What kind of odds are you laying on the fact that he won't make the NFL? I'd like to take that bet, not because I doubt him, but because its very premature to say that. Newson & Patton were playmakers for multiple seasons for us and they have not caught on in the NFL. It takes a special athlete to play DB at that level...

Yes, he had 2 really nice plays, but there were a lot more than 2 plays in the last 2 games. Whenever teams need a 3rd down pass play, they are going at him. Three times the result was a touchdown and there were other times when they got the first down results. The key is going to be how well he develops and yes, his 40 time too. One big test will be the Boise game. However, even if he doesn't do well, he is still a Freshman and he has 3 more years to grow.

Thats true, you all make good points. His form, back pedal, reaction time and speed all need to be improved, but hes already making plays that our DBs dont make untill they are Juniors or Seniors. I think that his experiences with the speed wrs in florida have really helped and im just happy to have this guy on our team right now because i think hes the real deal and will be special like patton and newson. Also you all are right, being an NFL DB is a very difficult task, but i think that he has the potential to develop the skills needed to make it and thats why im predicting we shall see him playing on sundays.
