I was asked an interesting question about Urban, and the question stemed from weather or not I thought FL under urban would beat the Nols this year and or make a top 3 bowls. To those I answered yes and that for that question and his question about the real effectivnes of the spread would be answered Sat against the Vols.
his question was, "Do you honestly think that if Last year Urban had been Coaching BGSU you would have run the table in the MAC and beaten OK?"
With no disrespect for GB, I think so, I think if urban had been here and we had the original staff intact, we would have.
What do you think? would we have beaten OK and run the MAC....which leads to would we have been the BCS buster if Urban had been here?

Was Urban going to tackle Adrian Peterson? Even UM, with all of his success, couldn't have brought a defense to BG in the time necessary to beat OU last year.

My vote is no.

My logic for the victory would have been the D would have held OK to 40 or less and that the O would have broken 40 sooner (forgive the pun) than we did that season with the O. Add in the the consistancy at HC and that to me is all the difference.

Jesus could have coached us last year and we wouldn't have beaten Oklahoma

Man I'm tired of this. Urban's a fine coach no doubt, but I haven't seen him walk on water lately so all the worship is getting a tad old. I'm certainly grateful for what he did here, even though I'm still a tad bitter about how he left. I'm not mad that he left, just at the whole lying thing, which he repeated at Utah and will eventually repeat at Florida.
He's a good motivator and a solid X and O guy ( at least on offense). But the next coming he ain't. People tend to forget that coaches don't tackle anybody or score touchdowns. Their role is to put the players in a position to succeed and then it is up to the players to perform.
The media has put Urban on this pedestal, implying that he is head and shoulders above every coach that ever lived. That just isn't the case. Is it possible we would have beaten OK with Urban at the Helm? Yes. Is it possible we could have beaten them with GB at the Helm? Yes. Is it possible we could have beaten them with my sister at the Helm? Yes.
Urban Meyer is a good football coach. He is not the end all, be all of college athletics. Let's get a grip here and stop watching so much sportscenter.

After seeing the "turn the other cheek" defense against Wisconsin, I have to agree.

Consistency? At the time of the Oklahoma game, Brandon was a coach at BG for three years, head coach (coming off a MAC West title and a bowl win) for one. The consistency was just fine, I believe.

I am over the whole "Urban Lied" deal. It was 3 years ago.
He got us turned around and headed in the right direction.
Personally, I like how he gets a ton of coverage cuz they almost always mention BGSU.
I think he's going to do very well at UF. I see a NC within 2 years.

I'm really unsure how successful we would be if Urban was still around.
I don't get wrapped up into the "coulda-woulda-shoulda" noise. I like where we are as a program right now.

I don't think we would've beaten Oklahoma last season. I do think we could've beaten NIU & UT, but we could've beaten them without him as well.
I do believe we would've beaten OSU in '03 & possibly got a split with Miami as well.
I have no statistical evidence to base anything off of, however, so its just speculation. My opinion in watching the teams that these guys have coached Urban's teams are well oiled machines. Gregg Brandon's do not run as smoothly.

I seem to remember Urban Meyer being outcoached at the end of the 2002 season in 2-3 games.

The only thing Urban has done consistently is leave schools after 2 years. He helped us out, great job. Who really cares anymore.
If Josh Harris was here, do you think we could have beat Oklahoma? If Nate Thurmond decided to switch to receiver and come to college, do you think we could have beat Oklahoma? Those are about the same style questions in my book...lets go beat Boise!!

Go back and play on the tractor, without Urban coming here we would still be stuck in the lower half of the MAC, losing to Buffalo. People here need to realize that this job is nobodys in the
coaching world's dream job.
Urban was great for this school, and I'm glad we had him.
