Latest News on NIU's Josh Haldi

According the NIU game notes for this week, Josh Haldi will not play against Iowa State and is being re-evaluated every week in hopes of returning for the BG game. Like many of you, I feel almost 100 percent certain that Haldi will be back for the BG game. They are listing the injury as a "minor stress fracture" in his right foot. I'm not doubting he is injured, but the way I see it for NIU, after he couldn't go against Maryland, I think they just shut him down to get ready for the BG game.

Being that Haldi's a senior and the BG game is just as big for them as it is for us, I think Novak is essentially holding him out and will play him against us. The word on Horvath from the Huskie Nation is he's 50-50. Sounds like for every good play he makes, he comes back with a not-so-good play. The only way I wouldn't expect to see Haldi against BG is if he isn't even practicing right now. If that's the case, he might not go. But if he's practicing, I'd expect to see him and maybe even both him and Horvath. Either way, it gives BG something else to prepare for. Instead of being able to prepare for one or the other, we'll have to be prepared to see both.

Isn't this the QB that wasn't able to do anything against us last year?

How major a factor was he the year before that?

He was surprisingly clutch two years ago.

Right, he was solid two years ago against us. Besides, you can't say one game makes a guy's career. Haldi was responsible for helping NIU beat Maryland, Alabama and Iowa State last year as well as several MAC schools, and he also threw 2 TDs against us two years ago to lead the Huskies to a win then too. That will get my attention. We made his life miserable last year, no doubt, but he helped make ours that way in 2002 as well. Haldi can play and we have to be ready. I just hope if he does play that he's got some rust from not seeing hardly any action this season.

On "The Ticket" yesterday afternoon, Coach Brandon said that Haldi would have to be dead not to play against BG.

That's pretty much what I figure too.

Ah, but you have to have two good feet and legs to use a clutch!

How Good is Josh Haldi?

Haldi is a pretty good QB. I have watched him defeat Wake Forest and Maryland on TV and was there in person to watch him dismanlte us in '02. Look at it like this, last year heading into the BG game one of their fans could have easily said "We are on top of the World, BG is good, but remember Harris last year (03) did nothing for them" Josh pretty much took the blame for losing at NIU two years ago. Senior performers step up when they need to.
