No respect for BG from ONN

I just listened to an ONN Sports report on the radio today (Wednesday morning) and no mention of the BG game tonight. However, they did talk all about SATURDAY'S Ohio State game. I even heard the kickoff is at noon for the OSU game. Certainly they know that Bowling Green is an Ohio team, right? Why no respect? Because they operate in Columbus and they are that self involved?

This surprises me. ONN is pretty well stocked with brown and orange on the TV side, I don't know where their radio reports originate. Any help on this one? (You know who you are, and you know why I'm looking in your direction... )

I just sent a nasty e-mail to the sports address on the ONN website. So we will see what kind of a responce, if any, I get back.

So here is what I sent. Probably a little on the nasty side. And I will include ONN's reply.

To Whom It May Concern:

It is with great displeasure that I write to you today. I receive the ONN e-mails each day and visit the website often to keep up with the news in Ohio since I am now living in Normal, Illinois. When visiting the website today I was angered by the lack of coverage of the Bowling Green State University at Boise State University football game that will be played tonight in Idaho. The last time I checked Bowling Green was in Ohio, and was one of the 13 state universities. Why then do we not get equal coverage to our other state school in Columbus, Ohio State University? We are both universities in the state of Ohio, we both play division I football. This game is important enough for ESPN to televise it, so I am shocked that it is not important enough to have a small part of the sports page in this universities own state. BGSU have a proud football history and should not accept the table scraps from the media in Ohio simply because it does not play in the Big Ten. The state of Ohio has one of the highest number of higher education institutions in the United States and if you are to cover one, then they all deserve some press time. I understand you are based in Columbus, and may not have access to the AP wire, but that is no excuse. Perhaps a name change to the Ohio State University News Network or Columbus News Network is in order. From your actions, this seems to be where your priorities lie.

Matthew,

Thanks for writing and sharing your input and perspective. We appreciate and value viewer and reader feedback. Obviously we work hard to serve all our viewers interests and work to match overall viewer demand with coverage balance. First, there is a lengthy preview story of tonight’s game on the web site. It specifically highlights the quarterbacks. I agree it could be showcased better, but it is the “Ohio Sports Headlines” section on the Sports Page. Also, for your knowledge one of our sports producers is a proud BG grad and is our resident expert so the Falcons are well represented. Yes, we work hard to serve the overwhelming interest in Ohio State from all around Ohio, but we are also committed to MAC coverage. As an example, to set the tone for the season our sports department traveled to the MAC Media Day and did preseason profiles on all the Ohio MAC schools. Of course, they have covered the games and match-ups through the year, too. Be assured we will take your input into consideration as we strive to always meet our viewers’ needs and I will share your thoughts with our sports department, too. Good luck to the Falcons in tonight’s game and thanks for watching ONN (or reading OhioNewsNow.com).

I did find the aritcle he was talking about under "Ohio Sports Headlines." I am glad the aritcle is up but shouldn't the headlines be at the top of the page? I thought that was why they were called headlines. Anyway, there is what it is for what it is worth.

The ONN radio staff is entirely different from the ONN TV staff. Two completely different sets of people in two completely different buildings.

Um....at least that's what I hear.

Northwest Ohio is very poorly covered by ONN for one simple reason...the do not have a bureau here or the CBS affiliate licking their testicles. You choose what you think.

ONN RADIO...

I don't know anything about ONN-TV...I don't have cable (I get DirecTV). What I was complaining at the top of this thread was ONN radio. Their radio coverage had no mention of BG this morning (though they had enough time to talk about OSU and the Sugar Bowl site). I wasn't complaining about ONN-TV.

I heard an ONN radio sportscast this afternoon and they did, BRIEFLY, mention the BG game, saying they were going out of conference to play Boise State. (That's really the extent of it!) Still, OSU got more coverage in the sportscast, but at least this time we were mentioned.

Does anyone listen to ONN radio's 1 hour College Football Today program on Saturday mornings? They actually have extensive MAC coverage on it!

Perhaps a few e-mails from here would help open their eyes just a bit.

I thought one of the stations up there was able to use ONN stories ... I'm not sure what you call that kind of agreement.
