Bottom Ten this week? My Thoughts

Well I would not object to it. Here our a collection of my own thoughts in some random shot of having a point.
Note: When you start reading this do not think I am trying to make you a GB fan. Not my intention at all.

1. I am sick of Gregg Brandon being compared to Urban Meyer. He is not Urban Meyer and he never will be. All you ever read is "what would have Urban done"? or "would we have won that game if Urban was coaching"? Quite frankly it does not matter. UM is long gone. I'm so sick of him being put on a pedestal around here. He didn't even spend 24 months here yet some of us act like he walked on water. With all the conference championships and bowl games he won here they should build a statue for him outside of the stadium. Two good seasons, I could have sworn it was twenty with the was people blab about him. He was on the first train out of town and in my opinion could give two turds about us. Urban Meyer can get a spoon and eat my ass.

2. Defense. I am also sick of the defensive talk being thrown complete on Brandon’s shoulders. Urban Meyer did not recruit any defensive talent either. Think back. When was the last time we had a good defense? 2001 I would say. Who recruited those players? 2002, 2003, 2004 the defense became progressively worse each season because there was less and less Gary Blackney influence represented. I am not sticking up for Brandon here, but I think UM left cupboard pretty dry in his defensive recruiting. UM was on the fast ticket and the offense was his ticket. Tell me all the great defensive players UM recruited? Let me know if any of them ever play a down in the NFL. He made mistakes here just like everyone else. Again, Gregg is not getting it done either.

3. I am not at all happy with Gregg Brandon right now. Maybe even pissed. I have talked to him several times and have emailed him back and forth several times. He is a good man and I like him. I am losing patience with him. Right now it looks like he is getting worse and worse as a headcoach. 2003 was his best coaching job. In 2004 he took a step back. That 2004 team should have went 10-1. in 2005, well.... It should be going the other way. I expected some growing pains and to deal with his shortcomings but it seems like he is not improving. I don’t know what the answer is right now but things need to start changing. You can’t do the same things over and over again expecting different results.

4. This team. They make me sick. They play with no sense of urgency, style, cohesiveness, or pride. They look like a bunch of individuals. They are all playing for themselves. Right now this is my least favorite team that I have ever watched at BGSU. The defense doe not play to bring down the tackler they play to make a big hit or strip. The offense does not play to make firstdowns, they play for the big payoff. How can I get my name in the newspaper? That is the way the players on this team play. My BG history only goes back to the mid to late 90’s. The 2000 team may have been 2-9 but I never thought of them as being losers. They may have lost nine games that year but they were always in the game. There is not a single leader on this team. It is sickening. Last night the offense just acted like the yards would be handed to them. They don’t have to work for them anymore I guess. I’m (insert name), it is a given that I will have 100+ yards receiving and a TD. So much talent out there and so little heart.

5. Last evening’s game gave me flashbacks to the end of the 2002 season. I think some us can remember how predictable we came. USF, NIU, and UT knew what playing was coming before we broke the huddle. Last night I could have told you when PJ Pope was going run. What is worse is that it was practically the same play every time. The QB run has to become a part of our offense or we are going be looking at 7-8 players in coverage on every pass. Andy Sahm could run that little option so there is no reason Omar Jacobs cannot do it. That 2 rb set would be nice too.

6. I have never seen a defense this bad. How many three and outs did we see last night? How many punts? I give them a small break because they were on the field almost the entire game but they had no stops on the right side of the field. Special teams is equally special. No need to talk about this anymore. You can read 100^2 other threads about it.

7. I am one of the biggest BG football fans out there. I feel bad that some of our other sports take a backseat for me but that is the way it goes. With all the anticipation and excitement I had for this season I cannot help but feel disappointed. I don’t even like calling what I saw last night a team. It is like they had no interest in winning. It was kind of like, we can’t outscore you so we might as well give up. I have no problem with us losing, there is loser in every game, but when we lose like that it makes me not want to watch.

Right now I do not know what to expect for the rest of the season. I have no idea how good or bad we really are. I know one thing, playing a close game with Ball St. sure is a bad thing. They scored a total of three points in their other 2 games and gave up a boatload. Whatever happens I will be at the Doyt cheering us on.

Go Falcons

Many valid points made, Kdog. I share many of your frustrations.
I keep going back and forth....The team will respond! Or will it? Like you, I live and die with BG Football.

I was 99.8% sure this team would go no worse than 9-2...and thought for sure we could get a split with Wisky/Boise.

"I am not at all happy with Gregg Brandon right now. Maybe even pissed. I have talked to him several times and have emailed him back and forth several times. He is a good man and I like him. I am losing patience with him."

I, like you, email Coach Brandon and try to speak with him any chance I get. I've always supported him. But some of the points raised on this site about him have got me thinking...What is going on????
He is a good man and very personable. But something isn't right at the moment.

I don't have the answers. Leaving Ball State Stadium, I felt like we had lost that game. Seriously. Since then I thought "Well, it was a road conference win and that's all that matters." But it still nags me that the Cards actually had the lead in the 4th quarter. Had we lost that game????? I don't even want to think about it. If that Ball State LB doesn't drop Omar's pass on the BG 17 yard line, he returns it and BG is down 38-28. That's how close we came to losing that game.

Like I said elsewhere, the team has over a week to decide what kind of season this will be.

GO FALCONS!

It took me 10 minutes to read your post because I started laughing uncontrollably after I read that line.

Heck, I'm still chuckling. I can't wait to use that one.

Hey, I have a meeting tomorrow ... 8)

i like how you posted all of those valid points. the thing i agree with most is that BG football is no longer a team. its a bunch of individuals out to make 1 big play.
